hello all

after loosing the exemption for the box rule
i'm thinking of cutting my 140 mm to fit the box

anyone have done it
can it be done????
is there some tools one the market to do it

i think i'll use a small dremel cutting disk and start on front and back of the magasine , cutting it to lenght and then with those 2 side removed ... heat them up a bit then i'll bend the to side to 90 degree with a flat jaw vise-grip
after you cut and file the excess until the base pad fit .....

not sure about it but if you have a better idea share it with me

I have seen people try to do this and it did not work. The mag were not reliable. The other way to do it is to remove a middle section of the tube and weld them back together. you do need to know what you are doing for this. I would strongly recommend selling the tubes/mags and buying new tubes. Alot less frustration. The last thing you want to do is fight with your magazines in competition.

maybe use the mags for practice only...? Would removing material from the base pad help?

I believe Grams will do this. You give them your gun and some 140mm tubes and they make the longest tubes for the box/gun combo. Very expensive.

I would think you would want to first off make a jig for the mag, on to fit inside the mag to keep it "true" and one to fir the outside of the mag. the hard part would be to make the bend for the base pad. i am thinking a hydraulic press, with a negative jig that would bend the lips over and cut of the excess. i am not a machinist so i could be out to lunch of course.

Stainless cracks easy...I hear there's no box rules in Action Pistol...Someone tell Mr. Clean to invite more people out to his next Action Pistol match in Barrie!

When I shot the nationals in the Philippines last 0ctober 2008, I noticed a lot of the national shooters shooting modified class where using 140 sti mags cut to fit the box with base pads with set screws on the side (this will allow you to lock your base pads to the mag after cutting the mag shorter and loosing the lip. You see there they do it because they always have been using the box rule but want to maximize capacity. which i took pictures..

Mike A, has come up with the way to modify 140 to 126 - 10 round magazines, I am working on it to make sure it is cost effective, I will be reporting back in next couple of days.
