cutting a barrel?

Damn! I think I might have to cut an old barrel to 18" for my "hatchback" 870. I didn't even know I could do that.

I just cut down an old 28" M870 full choke (no vent rib) to 18.25". The hardest part was trying to keep the hacksaw straight. Then I spent another hour with the dremel cutoff wheel 'facing' the end of the muzzle. It's all good and true (flat) now. And yes my registration certificate states the barrel to be <470mm to accomodate my 14" factory barrel already. The 18" barrel is just for range kicks and giggles. I keep the buttstock long on my 870's. I'm not man enough (to handle the recoil) for a pistol grip or paddle grip alone, which would then be a no-no for my 14" barrel.

Sometime after the Calgary M14 clinic, I'll drop this cut down barrel into the parkerizing tank! :D

We have to work within the rules, not like the gangbangers!
