Cutting a handguard

Well would ya? Say maybe your short on funds and buying a new handguard wasnt happening right now... would you cut yours down... its a bcl 102.. asking for a friend k
 
I wouldn't. I very much doubt it would turn out well but I am happy to be proved wrong.

Couldn't you sell the handguard on the EE and buy something you like / works better for the given application?

Given that I have never seen an M-Lok handguard that, as manufactured, I liked, yes. Most of them I disregard out of hand, but a few I look at and think, "you know, if it was a bit shorter, and squared off at the end, and had all of the picatinny rail removed instead of just a chunk wallowed out of the middle, it would be good."

If I ever do get around to building an upper with an M-Lok, it will be probably have to modified, unless someone starts making them the way I want one before then. And I won't hesitate to modify.

I don't see why not. Measure twice, cut once. It's just aluminium and as long as you're just cutting down the front end, I don't see what you could possibly do that would affect the proper functioning of your rifle.

I agree. A 60 or 80 tooth blade in a miter saw and you should be done in under 30 seconds with a nice clean cut. I would paint the cut end, but aluminum does not rust, so it isn't critical.

Ya thanks for the replies guys.. these bcl 102 are so front end heavy and their handguards are so thick you could run it over in your pickup and not hurt it...theres about 5 inches after the gas block so i think ill take 4 off. A guy can wrap it with tape to get a nice straight cut then clean up with some light sanding. Ordered a pencil barrel for it today to so that will lighten her up on the front
 
Sure, why not? Use a square, and If you have any files, use a single cut sideways, and draw file to get any deeper cut marks out. That'll give you a nice finish, and a properly squared end.
The hardest part is cutting it in a spot that leaves you with the raised picatiny at the front, but not partial M-LOK somewhere else.

Then post "I ARE GUNSMYTH" and "I HAS DREMIL" Memes along with the finished product. xD
 
There is a cheap and short for end in the EE right now.

I personally wouldn't cut it, but also want entertainment... so go for it?
 
I've chopped the ugly pointy bits off of 2 handguards so far.
I have a good saw at work that's cuts them smooth and square.

Definitely would not hack saw or dremel it.

There are so many good ones hahaha

My favorite is still the one a guy made and sent me about a year ago. After about 3 whiskeys he was threatening to just do it himself with his dremel and angle grinder. I managed to talk him down but....damn was it funny. But also kinda scary. But mostly funny.
