Cutting a tikka ejection port.

Wondering what the gunsmiths here think of opening up the top of the ejection port on a T3 action.

Would it jeopardize strength or become dangerous in any way?

The pre-T3 models have a more open ejection port.

Just out of curiosity why would you want to? Would it be to shave ounces? Can't see why else one would.

I just like open top actions...never really knew that until I got the T3. I dont like having to turn the gun all the way over onto its left side to look in.

It won't affect the strength of the action but will reduce rigidity. The effect this might have on accuracy is difficult to predict. I suspect, not much.

The rifle is getting a .224 krieger turned to factory sporter. So it won't have to support a heavy barrel or anything.

I asked the guy thats doing the barrel work about it but he doesn't have a milling machine so I guess it'll have to wait.

Yes they do have a larger ejection port.
