I'm thinking of cutting 2" off a 22-250 and looking for some tips from anyone that has had experience at it. Since the crown on the gun is a little rough looking and there appears to be some pitting inside barrel near the muzzle I thought I might try and clean it up. Also I would prefer the barrel being a bit shorter, I'm not concerned with the velocity loss. I have seen a few you tube vids that used simple tools such as:fine toothed hacksaw blade, file, various grades of sandpaper for barrel face prep and brass screws for the crowning. Yes I know I could take it to a smith but I don't want to invest the funds into this gun at this point. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would cut as little as possible, and I think you could have it professionally cut and crowned from $30 to $40... that really isn't that much...

But has the accuracy fallen off lately? Why are you cutting it? Just because you see some pitting?

I should inquire with local guys but I suspect it would be well north of $100 to cut and crown. The gun shot very good until recently. I think the drop off(very dramatic) is more due to copper fouling which I have cleaned but have not yet been to back to the range to see if it improved. Besides the rough looking crown( though it still shot well) there is also some ugly pitting on the outside of the barrel on the last 2" before the muzzle. I would like to clean that up since it is the only real cosmetic flaw on the gun. The internal pitting is very minor. The barrel is 24" , I would prefer it a bit shorter.
