Hi guys

So I have heard of some people who would cut down the barrels of their pistols (for example if it is threaded / like the Walther PPQ) to the minimum legal length. Does this have any effect on the performance of the pistol.

Also the legal limit is 105mm, so can you hypothetically cut it to 105.1mm?

Why the hell would you cut the threads off a PPQ?? The ability to attach the imaginary suppressor is the biggest selling feature!

You don't own what, a PPQ or a suppressor? ;)

You can cut the barrel as long as it's within legal length, but they seem to be rather precise with the barrel length on the Reg. certificates, so if you wanted to cut it down I think you'd also have to get it verified and have a new certificate issued with the new length... So you may as well have a proper gunsmith do it so they can re-reg it if needed...?

don't own either of the two :)

Fair enough. Let's say a gunsmith does do it etc. Can you expect any variance in performance of the pistol?

In theory there would be some on a micro level; less weight and shorter length changing recoil and pressure characteristics... but I doubt we would notice any difference.

If the gunsmith does a good job re-crowning the barrel, you could have a more accurate pistol than factory. 10 minutes of gunsmith time usually beats the 10 seconds of love that the manufacturer's CNC equipment gives a barrel crown...

Don't forget to allow for the expansion due to temperature, so is that 105mm at Standard Temperature or some other non specified temperature?
