Cutting Down a Barrel Question

I have an old single shot shotgun. I think it is a Ruko, not sure though. Anyway it is a break barrel.
Is it legal to cut the barrel down to minimum barrel length required by law?

When I go stream fishing I like to have some protection but I was told that it is illegal to cut a barrel. I don't want to spend the money to buy a defender type repeater shot gun unless I have to.

I know a lot of people would frown on a single shot for this purpose but I am really not interested in hearing pros and cons about it.

OK as long as you don't go below the minimum legal length. 18".

There is no min barrel length on non-semi long guns, just need to make sure your overall length stays north of 660mm.

They can be MANUFACTURED shorter length's. If you cut an existing barrel it HAS to be minimum barrel length. I like 19 inch's.

Buy a short pistol grip and avoid the hassle. They can be had on the cheap

I think it works like this ,
You buy a short barrel, say 12 inch. You can’t cut one to 12 .
Then your .22 or shotgun can not be under a certain overall lenght.
Something like 26 inches.

Nope. Has to be built buy a licenced manufacturer.

A barrel of a non-restricted manually operated firearm cannot be cut to less than 18".
A shorter barrel made less than 18" may be retrofitted.
A barrel that starts off less than 16" long cannot be shortened further.
There is nothing in the law that requires a barrel to be made by a licenced manufacturer. If there is ever a question about the origin of a short barrel, it would be useful to be able to document its source, and show that it is not a cut down longer barrel.

A company licensed to manufacture can make barrels less than 18" for non-semi automatic firearms.
A private person can cut a barrel to 18" in a non-semi firearm but still has to maintain at least 26" with an 18" barrel.
As far as I remember, you can still cut a semi barrel to 18 1/2" with a minimum 26" overall firearm length.

Taking a short factory firearm and putting on a pistol grip style stock making the overall length shorter
than the legal requirements may in all likelyhood have an effect on your bank account.
