I have picked up a A2 carry handle for a good deal from a fellow CGN'er. I am thinking cutting off the forward part of the handle and leaving on the rearsight and a single screw attachment.

What I am hoping for is a nice inexpensive compact rear sight that still leaves space on the flattop for a Aimpoint.

Has anyone tried this ?

I am crazy for thinking of this ? I know I can buy a proper ARMS #40, etc, but am am loking for an inexpensive solution

It's been done. Sucessfully. You just need patience, and good sawing/filing skills.

Basically, it give you a fixed BUIS.

I would check over at AR15... they are sure to have some instructions on how-to.

You're not crazy. It's an extremely viable idea, and has been done many times, so much so that it's also available as a factory item.

Spark up the dremel and bench grinder and have at it. (Then post the results of your handywork).

Good luck.

I would sell it and get a flat top.

Then again, I am a hazard with tools.

I think you misunderstood. He HAS a flattop - but he has a detachable 'A2 sighted' carry handle that he'd like to convert to a 'removeable/co-witnessable' BUIS.

Something like this (this is a factory item)??

ETA: Will you parkerize the bare metal afterwards or protect it somehow??

Princess Auto sells black ink marker pens for about $3 each (black, white, yellow, red). The sort used to identify parts at an auto wrecking yard. Someboby posted that they worked very well at hiding dings and nicks on Black Guns. Might work to cover your file and saw marks too.

Personally, I think thats a waste especially if it`s a nice ABCD handle, get a flip up BUIS and keep the handle for the old school look.
