Cutting down a Rem 24" barrel

The .270's claim to fame was a 130 gr. bullet at 3140 F/s....won't safely get anywhere near that with 22 inches.

Its for my son and he's dead set on a 22" barrel - he has a Win feather lite that he really likes mostly cus of the 22" barrel but he wants a stainless set-up. I found one but its a 24" - only reason.

If he's dead set on 22 inches I'd see what he thinks of a 7mm-08 remington but either way the 270 win will work OK too....its just, to me a 270 win is suppose to be fast and flat, that's what sold the round from the get go!

He should at least try the 24 first.
Since he does not appreciate a gift gun then tell him to go buy his own.
Most 270's were originally made with 22" barrels.
If he still wants to reduce the length, then let him pay for that too.

Thanks - the concern or want regarding the barrel length is for an easier handling and packing set up. Dropping a couple hundred ft per sec is'nt a real concern. I have a BDL in .270 with a 22" barrel and its a lazer at whatever speed its doing - thanks for all the replies
