Any gunsmith will have beads and taps for the beads. I asked to buy a bead at EPP's and doug just gave me one. If there is no one close, Brownells sells beads and taps, just make sure you match them as there are a lot of differant sized bead threads. I wrap my barrels in tape and cut them on the band saw and file the end smooth. On a shotgun if it's a little out of square it's no big deal.

I have a 12 guage SxS barrels cut to 20 inches,it was verified on the phone when i bought it at a gunshow and the transfer was sent to the cfo who ok'ed it 3 hours later.It has a bead at the end of the barrel and a white one halfway down which makes it really nice for shooting slugs accurately.
Make sure any ridge inside the barrel is filed off after cutting or it can split the barrel when fired..
I had great fun the last time I cut down the barrels on a double. The solder joint had apparently broken (before I started) part way down the barrels. When I cut them off the filler piece and barrels came adrift. I had to jig the whole mess up and re-solder the filler strip back on to the barrels. I sweat a bit over that job!

I have personally cut down several shotgun barrels. I have also had several shotgun barrels cut down by gunsmiths. I can unequivocally say that doing it yourself is much faster, much cheaper and, as long as you have least bit of mechanical skill, gives you the same result.
Go for it and have fun.
Oh... go ahead and call Maramachi about the changes if you want, but don't worry about calling Miramichi.

hahaha, i noticed that too. between restigouche, tetagouche, tatamagouche, nepisiguit, miramichi, and a whack of other places its no wonder we dont care how we spell.
Here's the cut down I did. My registration says " Barrel Length: 470mm or greater". If you stick a dowel down your barrel after you have cut it down and it measures your barrel to be 470mm or greater AND your registration says 470mm or greater then you are good to go. You don't need to do anything paper work wise.

Thank you ... that is exactly why I took offense to his referencing the RCMP.
Too often the RCMP and CFC haven't a clue of the very same laws they are to enforce and the sheep population accept their generalized drivel as actual, factual law.
I don't exactly understand what you mean with those words, but I can tell you that yes, I have a problem with those who advise with bunk information under the guise of expert opinion.

My registration says 470mm or greater so cut my $150 Ithaca 37 barrel to
475mm last night. Took about 45 minutes with reinstalling the original front site. My new truck gun.
Very nice job! Now very carefully apply some cold bluing solution to the end with a Q-tip, being very careful not to allow any solution to drip down the inside of the barrel. Even if some bluing does get into the barrel, I willing to bet that after a box or so, it will be all gone.My registration says 470mm or greater so cut my $150 Ithaca 37 barrel to
