Cutting the barrel myself....yes, I searched !

Depending on how much you shorten it, you won't be able to use the original sight/bead anyway. Because the barrel is shorter, when you shoulder it, it effectively shortens the front sight.

I have an IGA Backpacker in .410, and it shot about 4 feet high at 20 yards with the bead that came on it. Made one that was about a half inch high, and now it shoots about 2 feet high. I've seen some that had a front sight ramp for a rifle brazed on, with a bead screwed into that. Looks kinda funny, but necessary if you want any kind of useable sight. I usually ignore the sight, and just point and shoot with my little shorty. It IS a scattergun, after all :)

Last I checked, it was illegal to change the barrel length of any firearm unless you are a certified gunsmith. Then, it has to be reverified and re-registered.

incorrect. if any alterations are made that change the class of the firearm, they are to be reported to the firearms center. i would call to double check the exact lengths, but a non restricted firearm barrel can only be cut down to 18.5 inches, however, the overall length of the firearm still must be a certain length (cant remember exactly what that is anymore, been some time). having said that, before making any alterations, i would get the specifics from the CFC, because the people here are like anybody else, they will all have an opinion and believe they are right, so the only credible way to cover your ass is to check with the CFC.

Blasting away today with mine and got a bit careless with the old hold on tight thing and watch your shooting hand. Usually use my middle finger to pull the trigger but forgot. I'm fine but my middle finger took a bruising from the trigger guard smacking it....and it still smarts 3 hours later :redface:


Left my shooting gloves at home too :(
