I bought back a CVA blunderbuss partially finished kit gun that I sold about 15 years ago. One day I need to finish the wood but for now it is great fun to shoot. I took my 17 year old out to the range today so he could try it out and we had a blast, or several of them... Although I have never been imoressed with CVA stuff this thing works great. The lock is surprisingly fast and the flint holds up well. I think my son is hooked and will be comming to the next BP trap shoot?

I haven't patterned it but I only seem to hit things that are close. Shooting trap is more challenging unless I pull the trigger about the time I yell pull! It is 12 gauge so does pack alot of punch when you do connect.

what is the load you shot out of it? One ball? What size? How much of what kind of Black powder? I have never shot something in BP, so I am curious what it takes to load a shot.

I use a 70 gr powder measure with ffg goex, then a overpowder card, 12 gaug fiber wad, the same measure full of #8 shot then a piece of fiber wad to hold the shot in. In the flash pad i put a dribble of fffg powder and English flints.

The bell on the end acts like a funnel and opens up to about 1 1/2" inside diameter. Not the most practical thing to sight down so you just point and pull the trigger. Shooting from the hip is pretty much as accurate as trying to aim down the barrel. This is a very cheap piece but lots of fun.

Hahaha awesome. I'd love to see the shot pattern at maybe 10 or 15 yards.

I shot my blunderbuss at our annual shoot this weekend. What a blast of fun. I even hit 5 out of 10 birds. As soon as I seen the bird leave the trap house I pulled the trigger and the trumpet completely covered the bird. I had to rely on seeing the bits and pieces after the smoke and fie cleared to know I hit. I think this will be my go to muzzloading shotgun forever now. I may have to finish carving the stock and put some finish on it now! A few friends tried it out as well. I could load almost twice as fast as the others and the report from the muzzle has a serious ring to it.
