Does anyone know of a retailer in Canada that carries these firearms? I've searched, and the only place I can see is BassPro. They have this rifle listed in their latest flyer, but don't have them in stock. I phoned to order one and they didn't even know what I was talking about, so I drove down to the store (4 hr drive), filled out an order form (they still didn't know what this gun was, even though I showed them the flyer), and have now been informed that it's not available. I know it's a cheap little gun, but it only weighs 5.5 lbs and I thought it might be a nice little sheep gun. If it turns out to be a piece of junk, then I haven't invested a lot, since the sale price is $269 with a scope.

I have two CVA's... they are not junk... the are well made rifles... amazing, actually at their price point... both of mine can really shoot and are a very comfortable carry.

Hoyt you certainly like firearms at every price point. I personally was unimpressed by the fit, finish and feel of them after handling a tonne at the store I worked at. However I have never shot one or had one afield so cannot comment on anything more.

I should clarify... my CVA's are the Apex Stainless not the Hunter Compact... I have it in a 7mm-08 & .35 Whelen combo... the fit & finish is excellent... it is a robust build, and has excellent accuracy out of either barrel.

So where did you guys buy or handle these guns? I can't find a CVA dealer listed anywhere other than BassPro in Canada....

I used to work at Bass Pro Calgary. Worked the counter and then moved to doing special orders, registration (the was when we had the registry), reciving and getting guns ready for the counter. They used to have a bunch of different CVAs, been a long time since I've been there though.

When I did special orders there I could get pretty much anything with just a couple import forms, as Bass Pro had access to so many different distributors state side. I brought in some pretty cool rifles for customers. I don't see how they told you they can't get them. Maybe things changed from when I was there. Lord knows dealing with corporate management was like pulling teeth.

Considering all the time, money and grunt work that goes into a sheep hunt, I'd be more than a tad leery about betting on a scope that's part of a package for $269.00!
Im planning on changing the scope out, but the rifle comes as a package. I couldn't care less about the scope, it'll probably end up on one of my .22's. Again, I know that this is a cheap rifle....I was planning on buying a Forbes or Kimber..but this little gun is super lightweight and costs next to nothing...so why not give it a try? I have no issues with a single shot rifle, and the design of a break open gun is very strong, not a lot of moving parts to worry about, so how bad could it be? I loved my TC Encore, but I got rid of it because it was just too heavy to pack around.

Forearm torque and latch engagement are everything to break action accuracy... there is an art form to accurizing a break action rifle... it is not hard to do but requires some experience or a really good tutorial... which, fortunately there are. I would completely trust my Apex or Handi rifles on a remote hunt... I would also use better glass than package glass... but on a really tough hunt I would be inclined to pack one of my Ruger's, either a No.1 or an M77...
