Hello All,

After finishing this last hunting season I have determined I want a take down rifle in the near future. Something that fits neatly in the tractor or four wheeler box or the back seat of the truck or maybe in a large pack. I have looked extensively at different options but really like the concept of the CVA Scout as it mirrors my Optima muzzleloader, is ambidextrous, available in stainless, is simple and fairly affordable. Calibers I am looking at are .243 and 7mm-08 leaning towards .243 as ammo is a bit more available. Who is the CVA distributor in Canada for these? CVAs website is quite vague and looks like it hasn't been updated in some time. Are these still available? Does anyone else have this setup? How is it liked?

Thanks for the replies.

Canada's Gun Store has had a decent selection of CVA scouts over the last year. Might wanna contact them and see if they can order what you're looking for?

Models and calibers are confusing. I think the .243 Take Down is only available in the Compact with a 20 inch bbl? I know the Compact stock is 1" shorter and the bbl is 2" shorter than the standard CVA Scout V2.
Perhaps you could import from the US through Prophet River. Can't help you with 243 or 7mm-08 feedback but I have one in 44mag and it's stellar.

I have the compact 243 stainless take down and a 45 70 non take down full size, all I have done is sighted them both in, the 45 70 is a 25" barrel and the 243 is a 20" and considerably lighter. I will probably be selling the .243, I bought it for a lightweight deer rifle and I just bought something else to fill that role. I was thinking of getting another in 35 Whelan, I like them, they seem to be hard to find in Canada right now. Irunguns has them for about $600 plus tax and shipping. I have not dealt with them in a long time, all my experiences were negative , many people on this site like them.

243win. Great quality. Locks up solid. Shoots well. Has some heft to it, doesn’t feel toyish or like a youth rifle. Wish they’d come back in stock. Think I was to add a 35 whelen to the safe. Would make a perfect moose rifle. Wouldn’t say they’re affordable in this configuration though. Think it was right around $800 for SS/TD.

I recently acquired and use a 444 marlin in the takedown version. Love it, and now am running down the single shot rabbit hole a bit. Working on adding more in the near future.

Yes I understand that affordability is subjective but that $800 is cheaper than alternatives such as a BLR takedown, 94 trails down takedown or even the price of the used H&R single shots. Thats looking like a handy package you have there.

Fair enough. I like the configuration enough that I'd happily pay another $800 to add a 35 whelen SS TD so I’m definitely not complaining.
