CVA Scout with a Boyds stock or or something else

Ya, the plastic stock is alright , and I like the rifle overall, for what it is. I’m having the barrel cut shorter and crowned in the next few weeks, hoping to improve the handling and balance of it.

Been thinking of doing the same on my 45-70, love the gun, shoots well, would make one hell of a bush carbine with a few inches taken off

I’ve thought about getting a CVA just for the heck of it and something else fun to load for. This thread is interesting as I never thought about putting wood on it. Beautiful looking rifle in the one photo.

Also lots of good things about CVA it seems.

Post-recall Henrys have much better triggers than the earlier ones did...but neither of them can match the CVA triggers.

IMHO, the only thing better about the Henry single shots is the cosmetics...and even that's a wash when you swap out the CVA stock for something like that Boyd's.

They are okay, I have owned two, much prefer the CVA. Unless you want iron sights, I think the CVA is a far nicer gun, and cheaper. The trigger alone is worth buying the CVA over the Henry (which has a terrible trigger.)

The first gen single shots had a terrible trigger, but they were all recalled. Post-recall my trigger is much nicer. And the walnut on my Henry is much nicer than a laminate stock IMO.

Plus Henry Customer Service is awesome. That stock you see is a Youth size stock they sent me for free.

If the Henry trigger is improved, they do look nice and not silly expensive, should be lighter weight then the CVA/Traditions offerings which have a fairly stout barrel on them, irons I could care less, not likely used by anyone.
I hate the CVA extension for the action release, way to long on these, Traditions one is way more sleek and economic, Henry has a nicer one too.

I bought my Henry .45-70 used, and immediately removed the scope mount that came with it. Used the open iron sights for awhile, and recently upgraded to a rear aperture and front fiber optic. Loving it so far; my single shot CVA .44mag has no sights and is not D/T'd for them, and I really wish it had irons; it will someday soon.

I agree that the opening lever on the CVA is not exactly beautiful, but I can live with it. The Henry top tang lever is far nicer to look at, but less convenient to operate, and especially so if you have a scope mounted.
