An article in this months Ontario Out of Doors, looks at the possibility of deer scents, containing deer urine transmitting CWD.
The Ministry is looking at it, as the scents are collected from deer farms. They admit that the chances are low, however, warn against hunters collecting their own urine, and transporting it to another area, particularly if the collection site is known to carry CWD infected animals.

I have shot a doe before and while gutting, I kept the bladder intact, drained into a sealed container and the next day out, I poured the doe urine around my stand. I didn't shoot anything that day but I think that had more to do with the beans and wiskey I had the night before then the fresh doe in heat urine. I can't see why it wouldn't work but I never thought of how easy it would be to transfer CWD to another area doing that. Good thing it was in the same area which has no CWD yet!

Well, in my hunt camp if a lad shoots a doe, he is allowed the first half-hour alone with her.

Not too sure that any of us ever tried to collect doe piss either, but then in my camp if somebody brought back a sample in a bottle, somebody else would probably drink it.

Maybe the Chronic Wasting Disease has already hit my camp.......

A little off topic but interesting just the same.

At the present time, deer researchers across the country are trying to discover what ingredient carries the phermone or message that indicates that the doe is in estrus. Many biologists believe that the phermone is carried in the doe's urine. But this theory has not been proven. Nor does anyone know how long that phermone will stay active enough to lure in a buck.

If in fact ### scents are effective ways to lure in bucks that are looking for does to breed, the reason could be that the buck picks up the scent of another deer in his area and comes in to find what the deer is doing there. Or, a buck that may be bristling for a fight anyway may be drawn in to a ### scent because it is a strange odor that he needs to investigate to determine whether it is friend or foe.

This is to not say that ### scents don't work. Many times they may work. But if they do, scientific researchers have not been able to prove why at this time.
