I have another question...I hear that the CX4 Storm can be modified with a longer barrel and re-classified as a non-restricted firearm. I think this would be great as I would be able to actually bring it places to shoot. Maybe even kill a few yotes. I am just wondering what exactly needs to be done to the carbine and where? Thanks.

AFAIK, only Elwood Epps are attempting the conversion.

Problem being one needs to make one big assed wrench to unscrew a bushing from the inside of the reciever, then turn a new barrel from a blank.

I am no specialist on the legal matters about restricted firearms, but couldn't a fixed muzzle brake or something that will make the barrel 2 inches longer make it non-restricted??

That's a big fat negative... I called the CFC guys and asked the same question. They said the barrel had to be continuous (the rifling) to count towards the length. Welding a Flash Hider or whatever on the end doesn't count.

oh, that is not too bad at all. Elwood lists the storm to be close to $1000...$1300 isn't too bad at all for that fine looking carbine. Does anybody know the quality of the new barrel? Accuracy?

ive heard nothing bad at all. The barrels have a AR15 flash hider on them and they look pretty cool. Email ELwood for details. I almost bought one, but opted out to wait for the XCR. Good thing I didn't hold my breath on that one.

I got one of the plain jane ( no flashhider) 18.5 " barrels.. looks good and
shoots well... the cost, with barrel, was more like $500 to convert your own
Storm.. Was it worth it?...I think so.
Anyone who has the conversion done tends to hang onto them!:D

I don't want to be a nag, but is there any chance that you have a pic foxbat? I would like to see what the completed package looks like...
As requested...
The photos show the stock barrel for comparison... yeah, it's shorter, but the
heavier custom replacement doesn't look bad, and adds a bit of weight to the
front of the unit... so I think it ends up feeling as good as it looks.
You are given the choice of what I opted for, or you can have a recycled
AR style flashhider installed...
I haven't done any back to back comparos, but the longer barrel certainly is
as accurate, if not more so, than the 'stocker'... all in all recommended:D http://homepage.mac.com/inmans/PhotoAlbum25.html

Looks awesome foxbat! Thanks a lot for you quick reply!

What is maximum effective range of your carbine? I know that a 9mm doesn't have much out of a pistol but i'd think that is must have a fair bit more "punch" out of an 18 incher...

It's pretty easy to make consistent hits at 100yrds. on an 18" square plate
using the Eotech, but I would have to say 75 to 100 yrds, max (effective range)... of course your milage may vary, and contents settle during shipping!;)

Perfect! That is all I needed to hear:) You've been a great help foxbat!

Last time i asked for a conversion it was roughly $300 dollars.

+1. Or at least it was 300 - 400. Most of the new non-res conversions seem to be going at around 1400-1500, though. Maybe the extra $100-200 buys you not-having-to-wait.

it will work with all Beretta 92 full size pistol mags..not sure about the Compact mags...

the 40SW Storm uses Beretta 96 full size pistol mags.

the .45 ACP Storm uses Beretta Cougar mags and hold 8 rds.
