Cylinder bore or which choke?

I want to try something new this year for spring bear.

Shooting slugs seems like a cool thing to do, but shooting a slug out a full choke makes no sense to me.

What is the best choke/ no choke set up to fire slugs.

Will a mod or imp be ok?

Cylinder is best but if you have to have a choke improved is fine, just make sure you have a good smoothbore slug and keep the range close.

FWIW, Remington sells their smoothbore slug barrels with an Improve Cylinder choke, not a cylinder bore. Not sure how much difference it makes though. My mossy 500 cylinder bore always shot slugs just fine.

You will not bulge a barrel if you have a modified choke when shooting smoothbore slugs. The lead is so soft that is deforms to get through the choke, the problem is the lack of accuracy with the slug after being crushed to fit through the choke. I have shot remington slugger slugs through my 410 full choke but the accuracy is bad.

I guess a modified is too tight then eh?

Nope. Many of the 14" Remington barrels have a modified choke. I've shot slugs through a variety of constrictions from cylinder to full without problems. The best performance however usually comes from an IC choke.
