i'm heading sat to cypress hills for there elk reduction hunt. has anyone been there or lives around there. i know they have about 18 inches of snow.Any help would be appreciated thanks

I dont know if you will get much info on this one or not, alot of hunters are against this hunt for a variety of reasons.I dont have an opinion one way or the other. Most of the guys I have talked to that went to cypress didnt have much luck, hard to get around, couldnt find any elk and a number of other reasons.Anyway good luck!

Get out there, do some scouting and get permission from land owners its the best way to do it. Lots of hunters are against the elk hunt but land owners are Ok with it due to the fact they are eating alot of good cattle feed.

Cheers!!

No rut this time of the year, so you will have to scout and stalk. Ask the fish cops what they can tell you about concentrations or known yards. Do as much map study and wintering habitat identification with online imagery websites as you can to improve your chances. I'd be on snowshoes or a sled unless recovering a downed animal.

If they're in haystacks I imagine you won't have much trouble. Just drive into some yards and ask-alot of my friends ranch there they won't bite lol.

Good Luck. I live in the Cypress Hills.(east of hi-way 21) After a few shots the elk are in Cypress park or Fort Walsh. The Fish Cops will be ready to pounce on you for any percieved infraction. Some land owners are good and some are not. We have had over 30" of snow and more in the forecast. If you get an elk you will be one of the blessed. Around a 5% sucess rate, but thank's for trying.
