CZ 22s

CZ Standard, works good for this kinda stuff......

I picked up a 455 Canadian. I had a lot of the same concerns as you. I got it and wasn't very happy with the trigger. Got it home from the range and took it all apart. Backed off the trigger and it is now sitting perfectly without any spring kit or tweaks, other than a minor adjustment. Probably fired about 250 rounds so far, and not one hiccup. So far the best ammo is the Winchester 333 or 555 packs of bulk... hard to believe I know.

If by reading reviews , and trying to become informed is a bad thing , I'm guilty.
But that's why I started this thread , to hear more opinions.
Here's your chance to tell everybody how great they are , if that's what you think.

Old adage about opinions, a$$holes and stink applies here. I bought two old BRNO's ( model 1 and 2) because I wanted them. If you want one buy one, shoot it and decide for yourself.
Others experiences vary as the expectations are different.

I bought my 452 Style and Varmint in 2002 or 2003. Before I knew there were online forums about everything and anything under the sun. I just went into Reliable Gun, saw and bought the Style. Looked at the catalogue for a heavy barreled version and decided to order the Varmint. Shane, son of the owner and Reliable Gun's resident gunsmith tweaked both their triggers for free.

These two rifles have proven reliable and accurate even with cheap ammo. With Bushnell (Korean-made) Banner 4-12X40AO Dawn to Dusk scopes, I was happy with getting 5-shot MOA groups under ideal calm conditions at 100 meters, benched and bagged at both ends, more than half the time, with cheap bulk Winchester Standard Velocity Dynapoints. The other half of groups were expanded by 1 or 2 flyers to 1.5 -2 inches, still not bad. For comparison, Wincheser Xperts, American Eagle, CCI and similar High velocity ammo grouped 2.5 up to 4 inches. That was about 8 years ago, haven't shot in an outdoor range in five years.

For my purposes, the Style and Varmint are good enough in the accuracy department.

Bought a used 452 Scout last year and it shoots 5 shot groups with Winchester 555 high velocity, into a hole barely larger than .22 inch, at 15 meters. Have no way to shoot the Scout at longer ranges at this time.

I know some of you will say those groups are not a big deal, but I am satisfied.

3 out of 3 CZs have made me very happy indeed. But then I am easy to please.

I guess it's just the way of the world these days , but I think a gun should be as you want it, when you buy it.

The CZ's are decent to shoot out of the box, but if you can justify spending the money to address the basic design weaknesses/cost cutting measures of the gun (plastic magwell/release, dated dovetail interface, mediocre trigger) there's no reason not to.

Some people are strict "my gun is a tool" types, others are gun enthusiasts and like to modify and tinker with their guns. For the latter group, it will never be 'as they want it' until they make it so.

I have 6 455's and a 452 FS. 455 Canadian and American each in .17HMR, .22, .22 mag. The 452 FS is .22. I have never fiddled with any of them. The two .22 mags haven't been shot enough to get them dialed in good yet, but the others are accurate enough for me.

I am slowly outfitting them all with Leupold VX-1 2-7 or another Leupold similar. Nice little rifles right out of the box.

I had a 455 Varmint and moved it along...it would consistently throw one flier a few inches high right out of every group. It annoyed the heck out of me since I had lesser rifles that shot better groups.

I have a number of CZ 22lr ,great guns. The trigger springs can be bought easily for about 25$ ,it's a kit with springs and ? Can't remember the word. I used a spring and got down to 20 oz. with no creep and this was not the lightest spring. Easy to do to replace the spring, it's more accurate out of the box than most other 22's and there is lots of help on the various forums for any difficulties that may arise. The name of the spring kit is Yo Dave.

Spring and shim kit. Spring to change the trigger pull weight and the shims are of different thickness to reduce/optimize any trigger travel for crisp, clean sear break.

OP - magazine wells are steel not plastic, so I'm not sure what model the range guys are talking about. The magazine bodies are made of plastic. There are no other plastic parts on the 452s, 453s or 455s I have seen or own... non of which were anything but fine accuracy with their preferred (usually quality) ammunition.

The factory magwell on my CZ 455 is most certainly plastic (polymer). Here's a picture, so now you can say that you have seen one:

Looks like this thread has fizzled out . Thanks to everybody that left comments. Both good and bad. There's no such thing as too much information.

I think it's time for you to buy one. :) I have a 452 Varmint, a BRNO 2E...and I'm considering buying another as I sit here typing this. They're that good. In fact, I'm just back from a trip to the farm where I shot my Marlin 795 and my Cooey 600 JUST to see if I like them enough to even keep them. I measure every 22 I own against how I feel about the CZ/BRNO. They were fun to plink with, but wishing I'd brought my BRNO 2E instead.

3 days since the last post, not a very long interval. Assuming guys have lost interest, it is because what has to be said, has been said. Now go and buy a CZ452. If you're not happy, you can probably sell it on the EE, losing only the shipping.

Yes there is.

...agreed, and I might add...nobody here can make the decision for you! :) I've been fishing for Anschutz opinions myself on this forum lately and I'll be honest, a part of it is to help "push me over the edge" on the decision. I think I've read everything I can, been offered plenty of opinions/experiences...the ball is "in my court" so to speak. The CZ one is in yours triggerman42!

The ball's in MY court? I'll pass. You double dribbled. This is done. Your just trolling for responses now.
Responses like "yes there is" and "agreed" ???
I didn't ask you to make any decision for me.
I was asking for honest opinions. Good and bad. Pros and cons. Yeas and nays.
I think it has been covered fairly well , from both those views.
I thanked everybody for their responses.
It's time to quit typing about shooting and go to the range.
Now, watch somebody type...... " no it isn't "

I have a new CZ 453 Lux - 24 inch barrel with 16X Vortex on top. Factory single set trigger, once cleaned up a bit and lubricated, measures 10 oz pull. I'm quite happy with it. Currently finding out which ammunition it likes best, based on CCI standard velocity as a starting point. CCI Quiets are a disappointment, something like 6.3 inch drop at 50 meters. The rest seem to work well, even the cheap stuff. Likes Eley match.
