I randomly saw this one strange cz pistol online and from the model name it was made/designed in 1938 and it captured my attention. It looks like this

Where the hell can I find one of these? They seem to be well made but I would like to know where I can go to fondle one to see if i like it or if I should put my hope into a wtb add in the pistol exchange or start going gunshow to gunshow hoping to see one? I have wanted a 9mm regardless if its 9x19mm or 9x17mm from the 1936-1945 range for a long time. If anyone owns one please contribute to this thread. I would like to know is this pistol worth dishing out the money or should I just get a p1/p38? There is nothing on youtube and google produces less then satisfactory information on it.

The CZ-38 is the pistol the Czech military decided on just in time to have to give them up to the Germans. It is 9mm, but it's 9mm Short. That is, it's a .380, not 9mm Parabellum like the Luger or P-38. It's a double-action only design that was thought to be a better design than the CZ-27s that were in use at the time. But it really is very odd and not really any better than the gun it was replacing. If a CZ-38 part gets broken, it will be not just difficult, but close to impossible to find replacements for some of them. If you want a 9mm shooter, then the P-38/P-1 choice (or any of the dozens of different models available now) would be far better. The CZ-38 is really a collectible.

They were kept in use by the Czechs during the German occupation, and were also issued to the German military. The Germans took the arms from all of the countries they occupied and issued them to their own military and to allies. Czech pistols are of high quality and the CZ-24, the CZ-27 and the CZ-38 were all used by Germany in one way or another. Many bear German military acceptance marks. They show up at places like Marstar, Ellwood Epps and TradeexCanada, and probably (but rarely, I would think) in gun shows, from time to time. They're not common, but they do show up.

There was one available during the Wolverine Surplus Sale this past week (item #186) but I believe it is now sold. Might want to email Wolverine to find out for sure.
