So I finally decided to add a CZ 452 varmint to my rimfire collection...

One thing I've noticed lately is that the wood on the factory stocks seems to have greatly improved. The varmint models always seemed to be the most plain. In the last year or so, I've been seeing some impressive stocks. Has anyone else noticed this?

Please post pictures if you've got them.

Here's the one I recently bought. Yes the stock was a deciding factor in the purchase.

A budy of mine just bought the CZ453 for his stepfather. He does woodworking as a part-time hobby and was quite impressed with the stock as well. Even the guy in the store commented on the gun when he went to pick it up.

I, myself, have been lusting for one in .22 Hornet.......

My only two complaints with the CZ rimfire rifles is the plastic butt plate and the cheap looking trigger guard. I'll see if I can get pics of mine.

I found this one on the CZ pictures thread. mcapranos posted it.

If there is any objection to me reposting it in this thread I'll gladly take it down.

The wood on this one is beautiful.

Thats the problem with purchasing sight unseen. You MIGHT luck out and get a good stock, or you could end up with the planest piece of wood ever seen. Good luck.

I looked at a bunch of new Full stocks over the last year and not one of them was what you would call very great. But I lucked out on one on the EE that was better than average, but the real treat was to find out how great the accuracy is. The more expensive the ammo the smaller the one hole is. FS

I just got this 452 varmint today in 17 hmr. There were two at the store and both of them had pretty good wood but I am not a wood guy so I don't if it is just nice or really good. The test target was the clincher for me on this one. Here is a pic of mine:

Should have bought from Prophet River... you can see the actual rifle you are purchasing on their site.

I considered doing this for that exact reason. Then this one came up on the EE with what I think is very nice wood. Plus it has a Brooks trigger already installed.

Am waiting on rings, when those arrive the 453 (and 452) will come out for photos - even though I dont have a fancy iPhone to take them with :)

Looks like a metal mag too, very nice.

Sounds good. Which rings are you going with?

Oh yes the iphone. I like it. :D. Not that great for taking pictures but overall it's great gadget. So you can spend how much on reloading stuff but not an iphone?

Off topic here, but just so everyone else knows what I'm talking about. Here's a picture of Lineofsight's current cell phone: He says it's reliable.....

Did your manlicker show up? Did you get good wood? Not sure I feel comfortable asking you to post a picture :D

You want a picture of my wood? :D

Sounds wrong- but I will oblige, it hasnt come in yet, got it from Epps. BTW, is there a way I can restain or oil it if I want it to be darker coloured if its to light? Or do I have to totally refinish the stock then?

For rings I got the Millet BRNO type and for a scope got a Leupold Rimfire 3x9 with the Alumina filter kits.

Turkish walnut is dark, and if you like it that way, no worries. Better than beech, walnut can be spot refinished with paper , and tru oil .

I find the folks that work on the wood leave aloth of open grain , which can be ok if your not picky.

^hmmm looks like I might have a project to work on. ANy idea how easy/hard it is to adjust the factory trigger? I heard it has an initial bit of creep.

yodave has the equivalent of the Brooks kit (actually prefer his, couple better details in the docs and he ships same week and Canadian). Tubes that slide over pin and act as shim and different weight springs.

On the 452 can adjust pull weight by backing off screw and thats about it, hence the trigger kit.

Is also a fully adjustable drop in trigger that mysticplayer can help you with or Brownells.

You may also want to pick up a .20 rod (Dewey or Tipton carbon fiber) - chambers & barrel are tight (keep away with those $#*%^# safetyclad rods, the plastic peels into the chamber...)

Read something about using residue from sanding to plug pores (but dont like the idea of sanding), Levi probably more a help on that than me (louthepou also knows something about wood).

I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
