This 452 is my first bolt action rimmie so maybe i'm asking too much, but I get FTE's when I try to cycle the bolt like I do on centerfires. It only seems to extract/eject properly when I slam that bolt back quick and hard, which seems a bit excessive. I feel that i'm putting more wear on the gun than there needs to be.

So is there something wrong with my rimfire, or is it normal to have to cycle so quicky/roughly in order for it to work properly ?

You have a problem, my 452 doesn't need to be beat up to function properly. I'd have someone look at it, but others may chime in with a different opinion.
Have you tried different ammo, I have never come across ammo my 452 doesn't like but yours may be different

Mine feeds and ejects well. When it was new the bolt was a bit stiff due to tight tolerances but that smoothed out with use and a bit of oil.

Try opening the bolt slowly and watch what is happening when the case rim hits the ejector, try and see if and where it is hanging up.

You may have some issues with either the ejector pin or one of the two claws on the bolt. The pin can be undone an retightened to possibly relocate it in a better position where it facilitates ejection better.
The bolt claws are not identical but look quite similar and often get mixed up on re-assembly. If you or anyone dissasembled the bolt for cleaning check that the claws are in their proper spot. Sometimes the follower in the magazine can also cause problems and it can be removed and the lip bent on it but this usually effects feed issues rather than ejection.

Likely ammo issue. Some ammo has larger case diameter and can make it a lot harder to eject. Cci comes to mind. Try american eagle, if it still happens you need to have someone take a peek.

Depends on what you call rough.
Dainty ain't what it's about.
Rough and hard.
Most Lady's like it this way.
Most actions like to be worked.
Tender foot'in doesn't make for good ammo toss'in.
Not calling what you're doing dainty, but work the action.
Crisp, smooth and definate, no hesitainting.

Mine often sometimes drops the empties back into the action but I think its because they hit the scope and drop back in.

Sometimes a really gentle pull on the bolt will do the same thing. There needs to be a bit of energy to get them to flip clear. Could take a close look at the extractor though as it might be partly to blame if it hasn't got a good grip on the shells.

I cycle my 452 Varmint .22LR surely and deliberately. I do not cycle the bolt like a pussy and I do not abuse it. Most cases get ejected very nicely but one in a hundred will somehow end up back in the action. No biggie.

I cycle mine in kind of a snappy opening to get a good ejection. If I go slow, it doesn't eject quite so well. It's not like I have to do it in an excessive manner, just not real slow.

Ok , Nupes good stuff,

now can anyone tell me which extractor should be on what side? I know what mine came like, but I too have an extraction issue on my 455.
It seems to spin the case inside the action and FTE.

I believe mine started with the pointy extractor on the extraction side. The dull extractor was on the receiver wall side. I switched it, but iot didn't help, so i'm switching it back

I returned my gun to WSS for a warranty repair, it got sent out IMO they did nothing and sent it back if they even sent it out.

"pointy" is kind of vague for an extractor claw destiction so I took a couple photos for ya to be sure. This is off my 455 THV's bolt. First photo is from upper side of bolt and second is from the bottom.
