Hi there
I just got a CZ 452 lux in 22 LR and I am looking for a good optic for gopher hunting. I am looking at a maximum around $300-400 including the rings give or take a reasonable amount. I am not looking for crap 22 rimfire scopes just a quality scope for within 25 to 100 yards. Any help would be appreciated.

22 scope

Could do worse than a Mueller 4.5-14 APV.I have one and really enjoy it..Price is around $165.They're popular with the 10/22 crowd :D

As above is a fine choice. I have one on my CZ452 and it makes a great gopher scope. At the distances I am usually shooting gophers at, 25-125 yards, the magnification and AO is handy.

Best option is removing the rear sight. To clear the front bell, the highest mounts are needed (usually see thru) and when you get further away from the barrel, the angle of impact changes greatly. Also harder on the neck to look thru the scope.

I recently sold a CZ Lux, I had a Leupold VX1 2x7x28mm Rim Fire Fine Duplex, this scope worked great on this rifle, for rings, I used 11mm Millet Steel 1" High, these also worked great very sturdy and good quality.
Scope is gone, but still have rings if interested.

Yup the 2-7 Leupolds are My favorite rimfire scope, Weaver make a real nice 2-7 at about $199 and Nikon also make a fine 2-7 for around $150. FS

Mueller APV

I bought one of the first ones to be brought into Canada a few years ago. It was for my Anschutz 64 sporter, and I'd followed the collaborative gestation of the scope on Rimfire Central for the previous year or two.

The distributor (who, like me, also lived in Winnipeg) actually delivered it to my door. It was about $120 at the time.

I now have a pricey Leupold EFR Ultralight on my Annie (perfectly scaled to the size of the rifle) and the Mueller is now residing happily (and doin' a fine job) on my (get this) Remington SPS Varmint .223 out here in rural Alberta.

What rings should I use to mount the scope to clear the lux's rear sight?

High or extra high rings are a must to clear the rear sight. BLK uni mounts or Burris QD rings have worked on mine.

I would consider whether it is easy to remove the rear sight and whether that might afford some advantage in scope mounting.

The tangent comes out of the rear site, but to really remove it, you've have to grind the rear sight base off the rifle. Easier to buy an American or Varmint at that point.

I have two CZ 452 (one Lux and one Ultra Lux). I selected these rifles because I like the classic look of the iron sights on them. If you feel the same, you most definitely do not have to remove the sights to fit a scope. I fitted each of my rifles with a 4 x Bushnell Banner scope and used normal weaver mounts. It works perfectly and the sights do not interfere with the sight picture through the scope at all.

If you want, I can take pictures of both rifles with scopes and e-mail it or post it on here.

Canadian distributor/retailer

Here's where I bought mine. This was the company that first brought Mueller optics to Canada a few years ago ...

I can't help noticing that the scope has doubled in price, compared to when I bought mine in 2006 or 2007 ... even though our dollar is worth quite a bit more.

It's listed at $129 in the U.S. and $231 on this particular website. That's a 79 % bump. I think it was originally $89 in the U.S. and $119 in Canada. Not positive, but close ...

I'm guessing/hoping that the price increase is attributable to the scope's good reception/reviews. Perhaps it was a bit underpriced at the beginning (there was a special introductory price), and now it's just the law of supply and demand.
