I currently have a Marlin 39A and would like to get it a sibling which could be a CZ 452 or 453 Varmint.

Anybody that has both rifles that can offer their opinion?

Which one is better (452 or 453), what are the differences between the two, is it worth the price difference?

I am looking for an accurate 22LR, reliable, well built.

Thanx

Howdy

I have a 453 Varmint. Besides the adjustable set trigger, the other difference is that for the 453, both screws go into the action. The 452 only one screw is into the action, the other goes into a block that's attached to the barrel. In other words, it's a lot easier to free float a 453. I'm glad I got the 453. Using eley standard (brown) ammo, it puts 5 shots into neat one hole cloverleafs at 50 meters:D

On a 452 American, there are two screws into the action, barrel fully floated.

Take the money you save and spend it on an aftermarket trigger like rifle basix.

Or get the 453 Varmint, and get the better action screw setup, and a trigger better than the Rifle Basix, plus the heavier barrel.

edit - The 452's stock trigger only lets you adjust pull weight. Something like the Rifle Basix replacement trigger adds an adjustment for sear engagement, in other words, pre-travel. That's how far you pull the trigger before it lets off. Neither lets you adjust for post-travel, how far the trigger continues to travel after let off. The 453 trigger has adjustments for pull-weight, pre-travel, and post-travel. Plus you also get a single set trigger out of the deal, so it's two in one.

i got 2 452 lux's and love them but im sure the 453 are great aswell, if you want a walk in the wodds grab and go gun and like plinking and hunting tree squirells and rabbits go with the 452 but if you like a little stand off and fun bench shooting aswell as busting gophers on the mounds then maybe the 453 is what you want, either one will do it all, my 452 is close to my anschutz and fairs not to bad for acuracy on the bench or the gopher mound aswell.

452 American

I was having the same problem as you are having. In the end i went for the 452 American and i plan on doing hunting and some bench rest with it. The american comes with 2 action screws...the varmint has one in action and one in barrel. After talking to a gun smith he said on a .22 unless your trying for some serious bench rest shooting the action screws and barrel screws aren't really going to matter much. And for me i personally don't care if theres after travel...i'd rather spend the extra hundred or so on ammo or a better scope. But when all is said and done good choice on the gun and have fun.

Thanks for the replies.

Can 22LR and 22 short be used in a CZ452 22WMR?

NO and NO. Do yourself a favor and do a little more reading before you buy something. You may not get hurt that way.
