CZ 452 or 455?

Couldn't tell you which is "better". I have one unfired 452 FS, and six - yes six - 455's. I own three Canadian 455's - 17, .22lr, .22wmr - plus three Americans - same deal. I didn't buy them because of the barrel change feature, but mostly, I suppose, because the 455's were nice looking rifles. IIRC, I bought the 452 FS first, then I was hooked. The .17's are both wickedly accurate. They even make me look good! :p

edit: I may have to scout out a nice 455 FS. Only makes sense. :)

452 FTW !

I first bought a 455 Varmint, which was a nice rifle but then I found a 452 Varmint and sold the 455.
I recently found an unfired 452 American. I was looking for one for a few months now.
I'm glad I was patient.

From an accuracy point of view, the 452 is not alot better than the 455 but it is overall a slightly better rifle. The 452 is closer to the original BRNO design.

452 Varmint

452 American

Really nice Ben

Think there's a 4 barrel set on the EE

It is for a different animal i.e a Sako. The barrel set is model specific for the CZ455 i.e American and Varmint have a different barrel sets and the barrel set includes the barrel, a magazine and sometimes a spacer for the magazine well. They usually cost between $170 and $250, depending on the model, however they are rarely available and usually are offered as an extra when the original rifle was sold.

Wolverine has the barrel minisets in stock as of this week.

It's not that they aren't available but rather not all the dealers stock them. They can order them upon request.

My first CZ was a 452 Varmint. Freezing the front dove tail on the barrel and free floating the barrel produced instant results.
2nd was a 452 (Australian or American) with a beech wood stock.
Sold them both to buy a Remington 40XB.
3rd was a 455 American and 4th was a 455 Varmint which has now been bedded and pillared. Eley match grades did not show much promise but Lapua Center X produced a 0.26 at 50 and will better one inch at 100 yards. Finding the right ammo is the biggest challenge to obtaining true accuracy. I would rate them as very good "Gopher guns" but if you can afford it go with the Anschutz 54 action and start the ammo testing process all over again.
CeeZeditis is contagious and once inflicted is a never ending challenge . . . #5 would be a 452 American(hard wood stock). When I sold the first two I thought I had gone cold turkey . . . guess not!!!

Here's a side by side someone did at RC.

Personally, I would not touch the 455.

They made very nice improvements overall but grub screwed barrels are for countries that have a long gun cap.

Like someone said earlier... by another rifle if you want a different caliber.

I'll share also that grub screws come loose without attention.

My range buddy had his Sako Quad .22lr barrel come loose on him on numerous occasions.

Same with my other buddy's XCR.

Also, while the adjustable sights on the 455 Lux model is ok. It is greatly inferior to the 452 tangent.

The day they make thread on barrels again is when they'll see my money.

I appreciate all the input guys. However, I I went a different route. Sometimes the right thing just comes up and you can't pass on it.

What did you get? I just see a minus symbol...

I know the cure for that, buying a defective one for your very first CZ and being denied warranty replacement you are legitimately entitled to. Had I been taken care of I would have looked for a full stock model as my next purchase instead they've lost me as a customer. OP I must warn warranty coverage for CZ here in Canada is a joke and I wouldn't pay the people at the new warranty center to work on my guns never mind trust what they'll do to it under warranty.

Stupid picture hosting. I re-uploaded it and it should work now.

Nice, don't you just luv life's simple answers to complex problems. OTOH You likely be happy with either 452 or 455, or be really pissed if warranty is ever required. Makes one wonder if CZ is getting too big resulting in arrogance and sloppiness.

Great choice! that will work! My 1980's 64 MS out shoots my CZ Canadian but mine's only a single shot so I kept the CZ for 'field use' because its a repeater. The next 'most accurate' rifle I've had was a Norinco NS522, it was close to the Anschutz but not as consistent, I think due the size/weight and trigger pull of the Anschutz.

452 American. Much nicer rifle than a 455 and has a proper threaded and screwed-on barrel. The 455 was developed because it's cheaper to make, not be cause it's any better.

I 100% agree. the 455 was designed so cz can sell the gun for the same or even more and have a higher profit margin. As with so many guns now a days. may be nice guns but everywhere you look just screams easy to manufacture, easy to machine. yet so often the savings are not passed on to the customer. think tikka t3, savage axis, ruger American. put the cz 455 in there also. all new age easy to manufacture guns that run high profit margins.

The 455s are pretty good guns but I will never buy another one. I had 2 and they wouldn't shoot as well as my 452s until the action got epoxy bedded (on both of them). Not saying there aren't lemons among the 452s but, IMO, if you are buying a new rifle, you have a better chance to get a great shooting 452 than a 455.

They are hard to find but it is still possible to buy the 452 new. I was looking into the 452 varmiter because my shop doesn't have the ultra lux anymore :(
