CZ 452 or 455?

I just spent a week shooting gophers with my 452 Varmint (.22LR) with a Yo Dave kit and a Sightron scope...and...used a 35 year old BRNO #2 with open sights for about a bricks-worth of trigger time too. My 452 is my second, I used to also own a 452 Varmint in 17 HMR and like a complete dummy, I sold that rifle. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, both my 452s were/are wickedly accurate once the trigger is improved a little and you know what ammo it likes. I have zero experience with the 455s, but can't see in any way how it's an improvement over the 452's design. I suspect it's a nod (as others have pointed out) to the idea of lowering production costs. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad idea or an inferior rifle...but in no way is it a better design than the 452.

I am (at long last) considering an Anschutz for the collection, as my older model 1450 plinker is incredibly accurate for an entry-level gun. Not sure it'll be a 64, but likely one of the HB field guns.

Only thing that has me considering a 455 at this point is the possibility of having a CZ in 17M2. Didn't know they offered a barrel in that caliber.

I walked in to my LGS this afternoon with the intent of 'settling' for a 455. I use the term 'settling' very loosely as I would have been thrilled with the purchase. The owner saw me and showed me two NIB 452 models that were received that morning. Picked the one with the prettier wood and left a happy man. It's a CZ 452 2E ZKM LUX. I put a couple hundred through it this afternoon and I'm certain I got a good one, nailing 2" spinners with the opens resting the foreshock on a sand bag leaning on my Jeep...with cheap bulk Winchester.

That's a good choice. The 452 Lux has terrific tangent sights.

It doesnt get much better than this now does it?
Now, with some better American Eagle Hollow points those pesky gophers will soon be nothing but Pink mist and Magpie feed...
Either the 452 or the 455 will do the job as long as the one pulling the trigger does theirs.

you begin to expect results that have been repeatedly proven

Two flimsy Allan set screws placed on a strange angle, no specs on torque requirement, lose barrel to action fit. The only thing you could do to make this work better is to Loctite the barrel in place...;-)

Thanks! I knew after getting back into powder burners after a loooong hiatus that some CZ bolts would be in my future. Until I picked up a 513 and now the 452, my only CZ experience has been their air powered rifles. And that was always a great purchase.
