I should be getting in a nice little Scout in this next week (from the EE). I had originally thought to put on a Leupold VX-II 3-9x33 EFR, but I'm pretty sure I'd need to take off the rear sight for that. Ideally I'd be able to mount a scope with quick detach rings that would fit with the open sights intact. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: the main function of the gun will be for hunting grouse and small critters, primarily in the bush.

I'd look for a Leupold 2-7x28 rimfire scope. They come up for sale every once in a while on EE. The Scout is a very light rifle and a heavier scope will ruin the balance. And look a bit odd.
I have mine in Warne medium rings and you can leave the sight on. Removing the sight is easy with a brass drift. The stock sight isn't very good anyhow.

I had a scope on mine, and it worked very well, but with my new precision rifle, I went back to irons on mine. I loved the setup I had. I used a very compact scope, a " SunOptics shorty forty" but a "bug buster" would work also. Very short rings gave me a good cheek weld without a riser, and kept the scope behind the tangent sight so I did not have to remove it or install a riser. The Shorty-Forty has parallax adjustment also, was clear and held zero. MIL dots were a nice feature as well.

I have a Nikon Rimfire 2-7x32mm that fits well on my 452 Lux with a rail and clears the front site just fine.

May be worth considering an LVPO scope if clearance between the sights and the bell is an issue? 1-4 or 1-6 magnification is likely enough for hunting grouse in the woods.

Might have to look into that. Does that Leupold come up right behind the sights, or is it overtop the sights? I know the stock sight isn't great, but I want it set up so that my kids can shoot both the open sights and scope easily (hence the quick detach rings idea).

I suspect that the Scout's rear sight will be closer to the dovetail than the Lux, but I could be wrong. I guess I'll find out next week! I had also thought about a LPVO, it could work. The only thing that makes me hesitate is the eyebox diameter of many of them. My Leupold 3-9x33 EFR has a small eyepiece and it makes it easy to cycle the bolt on the CZ.

Good point about the eye piece diameter! If I remember correctly, that is one reason I went with mounting my scope on a rail was to get enough clearance for bolt throw on the 452.

Found a new Leupold FX-1 at a gun shop just over an hour and a half away. It was their last one, so I drove out and picked it up, along with some medium Warne quick detach rings. Hopefully I'll get to sight it in within the week
