Been looking at these.... particularly the standard model. Used to have a sporter Brno Model 5 rifles years ago that was a tack-driver. I believe the BRNO .22 rifles are the parent to these Model 452 rifles?

Thoughts?

I have a CZ452 American. Its one of my favourite rimfires.

Old world craftsmanship & good accuracy right out of the box. I purchased one of Brookies trigger kits & now have the trigger crisp & at less than a one pound pull.

I relieved a small amount of wood on the right side of the barrel channel where there was contact. Its now fully free floated.

There were far fewer mods & a lot less $$$ made to this rifle than my Rugers 77/22 & 10/22.

I'm sure you will be pleased with a CZ452 of any stripe. They are the direct decendents of the fine Brno rifles.

I am very happy with my CZ452 style :). Great accuracy right out of the box - no modifications neccessery, and not a bad trigger for right out of the box. Good enough for my purposes, which are hunting with this gun.

It seems to like almost every type of ammo I give it to, which IMHO is a big plus. Anything from bulk plinking ammo to Lapua midas L it will shoot (why am I shooting $15 a box ammo out of this gun ?!? :D)

brno vs cz

I have a recently purchased Model 5 Brno, and a CZ Varmint that I have owned for a couple of years now. The actions are nearly identical, I think the bolts are identical, but the Brno is much more sought after. On any given day, they shoot almost the same. I have shot the same targets with the same ammo and I get about the same accuracy from either gun. The Varmint now sports a Boyd's laminate stock and a Brookies trigger kit, whereas the Model 5 has only had the spring replaced to lighten the trigger. All of the CZ's will give a lifetime of great shooting and I have not heard of a 22lr CZ that did not shoot well. Buy the one you like and enjoy it. Later.

I agree I just bought one myself a CZ American .22LR - out of the box it shoots very well I am impressed. The bonus is it shoot that Federal bulk ammmo just as good as the $$$ stuff:D

I've got a 452 Varmint setup like a sniper trainer using a knockoff Leupold LR/T M1 Mark4 3.5x10x40mm. It's a dandy trainer. Loves to shoot 1/2" groups and the odd 1/4" group at 50m. Go for the 452 CZ since it's a fabulous value for the money.

I have a 452 in .17HMR and its the heavy barrel model and it will shoot 1/4 inch groups, you may want to wait for the new 453 model that comes with a single set trigger. Then you won't have to bother with an updated trigger kit. FS

I was talking about 22 long rifle, and I also said "consistently", not once in a lifetime of the rifle!!!!

Many members of this site confuse this issue.

I have a 22 LR Brno also built up with a heavy barrel and fiberglass stock like a tactical rifle for practice and it will shoot 1/4" groups all day long at 50 meters using cheap American Eagle solids. 22's are really picky on the ammo they shoot and once you find it then they can really hum. Are you sorting your American Eagle ammo by weight and rim thickness? If not, I challenge the statement that it will shoot ¼" at 50 yards all day long in ANY rifle. I have chronographed random lots of that ammo, and it's velocity varies by over 60 fps, which would make it physically impossible to shoot such groups. ½" I can probably accept in a rifle that likes them, but at 100 I would expect closer to 1.5", considering the variation. Regards, Eagleye

Tell that to the guys on RFC (steveB) and you will get Heck for it. So are you telling me that it will shoot 1/4" groups all day long in 15kmh gusts? What about 5kmh winds? Sorry but I am with eagle eye on this one. Even my $1400 bench gun has trouble shooting 1/4" groups all day long. The only time I can do it is if there is no wind, I have my full concentraion, I am checking for scope cant, putting it back the same every time, adjusting for the odd 1-2kmh winds, ect. But all day long??

If you changed that all day long to every once in a while I would probably find it easier to believe. Sorry, went preatty hard on yah there. Just curious :) ;), not trying to be a pain in the butt.

Jordan :)

cheap way to duplicate the ol WIN 52, when I was in Romania I picked up one made in 1962 for a pair of used jeans best trade I've ever made. The action is a copy of the original 52 action which was expensive even in the fifties

I have a CZ 452 Varmint with a 6-24x44 Hawke scope, free floating bbl, and the Brookes trigger kit installed (3 oz trigger pull wt.). Even with Eley 10X I cannot get 1/4" groups at 50m. Shot my buddies' Anschutz rifles ( he's got three different models), but no 1/4" groups here either. You must be one hell of a shot.

I got the standard model myself - very happy with it. I actually liked the design of the standard a bit better than the other models - distinguishedly plain and functional.

CZs

I currently have a cz american and a bruno 4 both are extremly accurate and both have shot groups of .4 or better at 50yds the bruno i would say is one of the most accurate 22s ive ever had and i have had a few in my time shootin them. Using high quality ammo this number 4 which has already been spoken for (for you that know me) will consistantly shoot .3-.4 groups. I havent played around with the american that much to really know what it will do but it has looked quite accurate now that i have floated and triggered it. I have toyed with selling it cause i no longer have a use for it but somehow it seems to always stay here LOL.
