Hello~read recently that the almost-vertical position of the bolt on these (when open) can result in needing to use high rings...is that the case? Considering buying one of these, but like the scope as close to the barrel as I can manage.

Sorry if this question is a little "dumb", but I may be buying this rifle sight-unseen. I'm digging around for any possible hiccups/issues before I make the decision.

Thanks for taking a moment to respond,
Rob

Rob:

I'm looking to buy a 452 American or lux...the only two models available with left bolts and I've got the same question.

I came across a couple of threads on the rimfirecentral.com site that included reference to setting up scopes higher than avg., but no exact measurements were provided.

I've posted the question on the CZ site and am awaiting the answer....will post once I get a reply.

Can any 452 Nutz confirm how high the bolt throws above the top of the receiver?

Thanks, Duncan

here are some pics, I have this vx 3 mounted in leupold 22 rimfire rings, not sure of the height and the bolt just clears, in fact if you lift it too high it just skims the bell. hope the pics help.It does work though, just clears and no knuckle busting

On the Lux I have, the bolt handle is not an issue but the rear sight was removed when a Bushnell Trophy scope (32mm) was installed.

Clint:

Did you use the CZ/BRNO 11mm mounts with one inch rings (https://shop.cz-usa.com/item_detail.aspx?ItemCode=19001)? If not, what did you end up using?

I heard the CZ mounts were high enough to avoid this tube issue, but they are definitely more expensive (about $55 U.S.) than basic Millet's.

I was thinking of putting a Bushnell 3200 AO 5-15x40 or the more affordable and frankly preferable 6-18X40 Banner. Not sure if I should go a an AO model (that's a whole other issue for the Optics thread).

Sorry for the dumb question, but how hard is it to remove the rear sight? I presume it can be re-installed should you choose to remove your scope, but thought I should ask.

Thanks!

Duncan

i own a scoped 453 varmint, are they the same ?

i have a nikon buckmasters 4.5-14x40 on mine and the bolt squeeks by with about 1/8" clearance.

Thanks for the input guys~glad (in a way) I asked this question. It's making me wonder about the gun...? As a bonus, I'm seeing some close-ups of the CZ actions~very nice! :)

So, rear bell dimensions aside, what (exact) rings and front objective combos do you guys have? I haven't decided on a scope for this gun if I get it, thinking a 3200 7-21x40mm. Problem is, I may be buying all of this online as my local dealers don't carry CZs and I can't test for fit before I buy.

Thanks,
Rob

22lrguy, don't let this discourage you. Noone who owns the gun is complaining about anything else about the gun, and you will be max 1/4 over the bore axis over any other 22 out there not enough to make a difference once you know your gun. cz's are wonderful rifles and talley makes the right rings for them. I buy another in a heartbeat, in fact asked the custom shop to make me two more, will see how that goes.

Hey Dizzy~thanks for the response. I see they make a high and low CZ/rimfire rings, should I be looking at the high ones? http://www.talleymanufacturing.com/cgi-bin/public_controller.cgi?view=products&category_recnum=5

It's a CZ .17 HMR OR a Savage 93R17 TRR...totally different rifles that both appeal to me. Decisions!!!!

Nicest bolt action .22 I've ever owned has been the CZ's for the money. Bolt lift was never a problem with Burris Signature rings medium and a 3x9x40 scope. Just have to remove the rear sight on the Lux I own. Of all the guns I own the Lux gets shot the most and with the iron sights and the YoDave trigger kit. I cannot find a better rifle to practice and have fun with. They are well made. :)

Guys:

Thanks for some amazing feedback!

I've decided to go with the Lux and shoot with the regular sights until I nail down my scope and mount choices.

I wonder, can the rear sight be replaced after removing it.

Thanks again...keep the feedback coming!

Call Talley, they will ask you what scope you are using and send you the EXACT rings you need, their customer service is absolutely topnotch.
