CZ 452 Varmint Scope

I know, another thread asking about a suggestion for a scope :rolleyes:, but here goes. Just picked up a CZ 452 Varmint recently and love it, however for the time being I just have a 2.5 to 10 power Tasco varmint scope mounted on it. I'm working my way out to shooting at 100 yards, in 25 yard incriments and was wondering what power scope would be the most versatile for out to 100 yards. Not looking to break the bank with a high end Leupold, but a step up from the Tasco and low end Bushnells would be great.

Out to 100 yards, I use a 3x9x by either 40 or 50 mm front lens. Very ample for targets and my favorite...gophers. Even beyond 100 is very possible. A couple of longer range .22s wear 6x24x50mm Tascos. Never found them short on power for out to 200.
 
I would highly recommend the Sightmark Triple Duty 8.5-25x50 scope. I recently bought one for my 452. Top notch optics, Mil dot illuminated reticle, 1/8 Mil clicks, side focusing down to 10m (!), 30mm tube. Excellent quality. You will see .22 bullet holes clearly @100m.
Price around $200 shipped on eBay. Not too hard to find 30mm rings either.
 
You all may not like what I'm using but I've been very lucky using a pair of FAKE Leupold (I call them Rewpolds LOL) :D on my Ruger 10/22 and CZ452 Style. The fakes are copies of the Vari X III 3.5 x 10 x 40mm LR/T but they only cost me $ 100 each. For .22LR's where the recoil is near NIL, these cheap scopes are on par with similar priced Tasco and Bushnell glass that's all made in Zhina. :eek:

I've even killed many groundhogs when the fake Leupolds were mounted on my M700 Rem .223 SPS with sporter barrel. I just happen to love the side focus on these cheap copies, something not found on a $ 100 Bushnell or Tasco.

I wanted to go that route too but I needed stronger magnification for long range .22 shooting. But you can't go wrong with those Rewpolds for $100 bucks. :)
 
You really don't need all that much magnification to shoot out to 100m. My scoped rimfires wear fixed 4x, 2-7x, and 3-9x mostly. I've never really felt handicapped at that distance. My 452 american regularly prints 1.1-1.2" average groups with CCI blazer with a redfield 2-7x scope. Maybe if you want to do some serious target work it could be handy to have a little more magnification. Maybe look at the bushnell 3200 series, Redfield revolution, and burris fullfield lines.

I agree. You don't need all that much magnification to shoot out to 100m. Iron sight will do the job too. :D
But seriously, I'm planning to shoot out to 300m and I do need the stronger scope for that distance. Not to mention, I don't need to use a spotting scope to check my hits @100m. :)
 
452 Varmint!! That's the way to go! I love mine. Get something with around 4x16x40 and you will be a very happy camper.

There was a great deal on a bushnell 4x16 in EE optics exchange.

Unlike me, the optics whore... waiting on rings to mount my Millet TRS-1 4x16x50 SF IR 30mm maintube, 50mm objective......

Damn I want to get this project completed!!!!!
 
I have a Zeiss 3-9x40 on my CZ 452 Varmint (.22LR). Works wonderfully.

(sorry for the crappy pic.) Haven't zeroed it yet, but like what I see so far. I'm hoping to see how far I can reach with my new .17 HMR, and like the Muellers about 100x more than the Bushnell Banner I had on my last one. My only complaint about the CZs is how high the bolt throw is. Required high rings in my case, but it's a big (or huge..) scope. We'll see how they get along.
 
gophers or other small targets at 100ish yards or less?

fixed power 12x from Leupold
heck even one of their 6x fixies will do

i love my big variables on my varmint rifles but on a 22? 12x is fine...
 
Glass for up to 100 meters, I'd say any scope with fine reticles will do.

My Marlin 60 wears a Nikko 4 X 32 fixed and it can group 1.5 inches with cheap bulk winchester ammo at 100 meters, right alongside my CZ452s with Bushnell Banner 4-12X x 40AO and a Savage MKIIF with Bushnell Sportview 3-9 x 32AO.

Why spend more when it is not really necessary?
 
I put a nikon 4.5-14 X 40mm Side focus scope. Lowest focus point is 50y so when shooting closer than than I turn magnification down to 4.5 and I can aim at 25y targets well. 15 yards or closer is not as clear, but, on my CZ453, it's meant to reach out there.

The side focus is easier to adjust and on 14X I don't even need a spotting scope to see bullet holes.
 
bsa sweet 22 on my browning buckmark heavy barrel love it its in 2 to 7 power with bullet drop compensater dont get the older model with the turret drums you had to change for the diffrent weight 22 bullits get the new model with the diffrent markings on the turret for the diffrent grains of bullets i love this thing i am considering selling a brand new in the box bsa sweet 22 in the 6 to 18 power with this setup i got it as gift but have no use to shoot a scope that big on my 22
