Today I was looking at a CZ452 heavy barrel at a gunshop.

I like it, however, this gun was not drill for a scope base.

I believe all CZ452 are not drilled, however online I saw a picture of CZ452 with drilled receiver.

I am confused. Can anybody provide some help?

Thanks

CZ 452 Varmint receivers aren't drilled and tapped, but they have an integral 11mm dovetail for mounting scope rings.

I bought some BKL rings for mine as they will fit the CZ 452's with either the 3/8" or 11mm dovetails.

I hope this helps.:)

I can't say the dovetail mount was ever a problem with mine...despite the thunderous recoil.

Personally, I despise dovetail mounts and would much prefer it if CZ had been clever enough to machine Weaver rails into the receivers of all their rimfire and centerfire rifles.

That being said, I don't think there is any worry about the recoil of a .22LR shaking the scope rings loose if they are properly tightened.

It just means you can't easily remove your scope and have it return to zero when remounted.

The biggest problem is bolt handle scope clearance. I suggest using the Warne Rimfire rings from Brownells , they are steel and cost around $35 plus shipping. they seem to be very well made and clamp on both 11mm euro and north american 3/8 .22 dovetails.. just have the dots down on the mounting clamp when using a 11mm rail .. Here's the Warne rimfire high rings on my 452 lux the scope just clears the bolt handle .. not sure if the medium rings would give most scopes enough height to clear the bolt handle . glad i ordered the high rings .

I have the Warne rings on my 452 American and they don't fit the 3/8" dovetail very well at all, no matter which way I position the dot.

That is why I bought the BKL rings.

One of these days I'll get around to swapping them out.

The rings i have fit and work perfect on my Lux with dot down , i have shot over 1000 rounds and the rifle has been banged around on a few hunts with no zero shift ?

The 452 Lux, .17Mach2 and .22LR Varmint all have an 11mm dovetail.

The 452 American and .17HMR Varmint have a 3/8" dovetail.

I agree that the Warne rings seem well made, but they don't fit a 3/8" dovetail very well.

On my rifle they look very awkward and insecure.

On the other hand, the BKL rings are supposed to fit everything well.

the BKL rings will work but they are designed to expand with a center expander screw to fit 11mm and they should squeeze tight enough for 3/8".

Problem is, because of this utilitarian design, it fits neither dovetail exceptionally well. You can't maintain a good fit on the angle of the groove with a 1 size fits all ring. Secondly, the BKL's will slightly expand the ring width when tightening down. It ends up not fitting the scope as well as rings made for a particular size groove.

J&P makes a delrin adapter for the grooves that will allow a weaver mount to be used. the adapter is only about 1/16" higher than the gooves and will not raise the scope much. Alternatively, DIP makes a rail that mounts on top, out of aluminum, and essentially does the same thing.

I believe you have the BKL rings mistaken for a vertical split ring.

These are the BKL's and they get rave reviews when mounted on CZ's at rimfirecentral.

I can't see how the ring width could possibly be expanded when the base screw is tightened down.

they do, but some how i don't feel confident on them

Xhunter. Cz feels confident enough about their integral rail to the point of seeing no need to drill and tap the receiver. You will have to find a smith to drill it for you or go with a system that has worked for thousands of rimfire and centerfire users the world over. Heck even Sako believes integral rails are strong enough to held a scope

I'm running J&P adapters with Burris Signature Zee rings. Works very nicely and its lower profile than the railed bases. I'm tempted to machine the adapters down to just fit under the rings, would look even better.
