Hi everyone,

What are people's thoughts on the 452 American 22" in .22lr versus the 452 Varmint in .22lr? Does is the thicker barrel worth it? I can't see .22lr heating up that much that heat would be an issue, but I've heard that the rigidity of the 'bull barrel' in the Varmint serves to be more accurate than the thinner one on the 22" American due to the harmonics of the barrel as it vibrates due to the passing round.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Cal.

on rimfirecentral their are guys posting sub moa groups with americans and with varmints. if you want some more weight and dont carry your rifle on long walks then get the varmint. my 513 shoots 1/2" at 50yrds and it has the same barrel as the americans. in trems of accuracy you wont see a differance. CZs are accurate. depends what you plan to use it for.

I don't think one is more accurate than the other. For bench shooting the thicker fore stock of the varmint will sit on the bags/rest better. For off hand shooting and carrying the slimmer and lighter american will be better.

My fat barrel of the varmint just gives me more LCV (looks cool value) when I mounted it in a Boyd's Hunter stock. Now it looks somewhat tactical and doubles as my 'trainer' for my Precision Rifle training needs. :D

YMMV,

Cheers,
Barney
