Hi
I know they haven't made the CZ 453 for quite awhile now. This is the model with the single set trigger.

I see on another site that a fellow is trying to sell one with a nice scope for $2100.00 The scope can't be worth more then $500.00 at the most used. Are these guns worth this much these days?

Thanks Graydog

The trigger is the key difference between the CZ 453 Varmint and the CZ 452 Varmint. The other significant difference is the action screw location, with the rear attaching to the trigger housing and the front on the receiver. The 452 has its rear action screw on the receiver and the front is a barrel lug. The barrels are both the same, with the exception that an individual barrel can be a little better or a little worse than another, regardless of the model. The stocks are the same with the only difference being the location of the action screw holes.

When both models were available, the difference in price was about $100 - $150. The single set trigger of the 453 in itself doesn't make that model any more accurate than a 452. Accuracy will be in the barrel.

I think the Master is probably close on his $700 number. Things like condition, dramatic wood grain (or lack of) could move that number +/-. I don't imagine the price on these will be creeping down any time soon, so if you're not in a panic to sell...the landscape could be different in the years to come. I don't pay much attention to the factors that drive these things (if I'm being honest) but my hunch is that if future CZs don't prove to be as accurate/consistent as the 452/453s were, those rifles could be perceived as the last "good ones" and the value could increase based on that alone.

I always kind of viewed the 455s as a compromise, basically 452s made less expensively. The 457s sort of appear to have a build quality that might even surpass the 452s, but I have no hands-on experience with 455s or 457s...so take that for what it's worth. I've held several models of both/shot none of them.

The seller also wants unusual conditions for the sale including meeting in a police departments parking lot for the transfer.

I would say that you are better off waiting for another more reasonable deal to come along.

That deal is for two two rifles, scopes, ammo, etc. Agreed, very unusual and specific terms for the sale so that may be hanging around for awhile. 453’s come up frequently on the EE a few times a year just gotta watch and be patient.

He has three adverts up, the second is for the Model 700 Police mentioned in the 453 advert, he's asking $4700 for it. He does muddy the waters somewhat however I think the $2100 is for the 453 and case etc but just the one rifle.

Well I guess I stand corrected having reread that. That’s insane to think someone would even ask that for a 453.

Yes but it's a older discontinued model superior over the 452. They are quality rifles.

452 was no slouch..

The 453 is "superior" to the 452 only in the sense that it is like having two triggers, one for the range and one for hunting. That's it. The 453 trigger blade location is further forward than that of the 452. This may be an issue for some shooters.

The 453 trigger mounting design has a potential shortcoming in that inadvertent overtightening of the rear action screw can cause problems as it attaches to the trigger housing which in turn attaches to the receiver. The 452 action screws attachment are much more robust and secure. Except for the triggers and action screw locations, the 452, whose trigger can be lightened to below 12 ounces, and the 453 are basically the same rifle.

Pfft, no chance on earth it's worth $700.

Brand NEW CZ 457 is $699.99 on cabelas.ca right now. Ready to ship.

And it's a way better rifle with improvements over the 453

^there are plenty of people who believe that the best CZ rimfires made were the 452/453 series of rifles.

I now believe the best CZ rimfires are the 452 series.
My quest for a 453 is officially over.

I have one of each, a 452 lux (smooth and inherently accurate), 455 yellow kanel with fly weight trigger, smooth as butter and crazy accurate, and a 457 Lux which doesn't seem as smooth (it is still very new) or super accurate but I love the bolt handle and the 60 degree bolt throw. It is very easy to shoot, especially offhand. I have to say I really enjoy all three equally. All have their own vices and virtues. CZ has been one of the top tier rimfire (and not only) rifle makers for a very long time and each iteration always brings something new to the table that no other manufacturer brings.

After grauhanen's explanation of possible 453 trigger assembly mounting issues due to over tightening, I now believe the best CZ rimfires are the 452 series.

I have four, an American, a Full Stock, a Varmint and a Varmint in .17 and they all have their charms. The .17 is a lot of fun in the gopher patch but all are tack drivers. I shoot the American the least however I enjoy its' company so it stays in the collection.

I've topped all of them with various Leopold's.
