A friend just told me about this rimfire, CZ website offers very little info. Any one know any real details about the changes? Tried searching it with no luck.

Hey Thad,

My understanding is that CZ is changing the format of how they are joining barrels to actions with the end result being that barrels are going to be able to be switched out for different calibers. They have come out with adapters for the different mag sizes and you will soon see packages where multiple barrels and magazines will be sold in kits. Soon your 455 22lr will be able to be switched out and fire 17hmr. This is still in the works but we will probably see these guns sometime this summer.

Thanks for the info. I am not sure how this would be sucessful as it did not take off for Sako with the Quad. CZ has always made great guns, just trying something new I guess, we will see when they come out and hit the market. Also would you have to zero your scope every time you swapped a barrel(calibre)? Seems counter productive.

They made more changes than that. They now have 2 screws in the action and the Dovetail will be the same size no matter what model it is. Not sure about these but also heard that lessened the bolt throw and changed up the trigger.

I'm not sure that CZ intends to market these as a switch barrel rifle. My understanding is that the new design is supposed to be easier to manufacture and and cut down on the number of different receivers for different models to one for all models.

I hope that quality does not suffer with the introduction of this new series of rifles.

Hey TJ

These CZ's will be marketed as a switch barrel option and like 6mm shooter stated above the dual screw process will indeed be used in allowing the switch to be made. I was in PK meetings with the International Sales Manager of CZ last week and he mentioned that the 452 series will slowly be changing over to this new 455 format. Keep your eyes open because they will be offering kits with interchangable barrels and magazines. This should be interesting and like you I hope they are not messing with a good thing but only time will tell.

Quote from CZ website:
The new CZ 455 is the next generation of the CZ bolt action rimfire. The 455 model will eventually consolidate all of the receivers currently used in the 452 line into one common platform. This combined with the new interchangeable barrel system of the CZ 455 will allow the user to easily change the stock configuration as well as the caliber of their rifle. The 455 retains the accuracy and quality of the adjustable trigger, hammer forged barrel and billet machined receiver from the CZ 452. Improvements that the 455 brings include new manufacturing technology and tighter tolerances for improved accuracy and smoother operation. The American model is the first to see the benefits of the change from 452 to 455. Other configurations will be making the conversion soon.
