I want to mount a 40 mm objective end scope (3 to 9) on a CZ455 canadian , using tally rings. I am not sure whether to order high or low rings. can anyone tell me the measurement from the top of the dovetail to the bottom of the scope tube, on the Talley rings? Or your experience . Thanks

According to the Talley web site, the low rings (22CZRL model) have a height of .350"; the high rings (22CZRH) are .600". The objective bell of your scope will be a little larger than 40mm, so you will have to measure it or consult the specifications. To help calculate scope ring height, try this web site h t t p:/ /www.mil-rad.com/scope_ring_calculator

There are a lot of other good scope rings available that offer something in between the Talley low and high rings.

Talley highs with Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 leave about 0.29" clearance between the barrel and objective on a CZ 455 Canadian with Lilja Varmint contour barrel. The height difference grauhanen posted between highs and lows is 0.25". In theory, using the lows will give you 0.04" clearance. Medium anybody?

CZ 455. Talley highs with a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40. Played around with the best position for me and the scope sits just above the rear sights. Had to remove them as the scope was touching. Took pictures of the adjustment in the event I put them back on.

The Talley lows (22CZRL) I have are about 0.340 high. They are perfect for the Leupold Rimfire line of scopes that have a smaller ocular diameter. I think you will find them to be too low for what you want to do. Just as an example, I have a VX2 6-18 x 40 AO mounted .375 above the CZ dovetail. The ocular/bolt handle clearance is about 0.050. If I force the bolt handle up it almost touches the ocular. If I were to mount the scope just slightly forwards of the existing position, or slightly lower, the tapered VX2 ocular would interfere with the bolt handle.
Warne 7.3/22 rings in medium (721M) would mount your scope about 0.455 above the dovetail which would give you good objective and bolt handle clearances yet keep the scope fairly low mounted if that is what you are after.
I find Talley high rings too high but that's just me.
