Well since I have had no luck finding a 455 varmint precision trainer, I have decided to look at building my own. There are a few questions I have for some of you guys with a lilja barrel on your 455's. I have read in other threads that the lilja barrel needs to be bedded as leaving it free floated will throw your groups out to lunch. Is this the case? Some threads say the lilja will drop right in at home, but lilja recommends a smith install it, I will have a smith install mine to be safe, have there been issues with the installation for those who have one? I have not shot a cz yet but I hear the trigger isn't very good. What would you recommend for an aftermarket trigger? Your thoughts and experience is appreciated. Here is a rundown on my thoughts for this build:
CZ 455 varmint-17 hmr to play with for a while
Lilja 22lr match barrel, .900 contour
Timney trigger
McMillan rimfire magnum varmint stock - moulded in rhino camp
Rail installed for use of my atlas bi-pod
Zeiss conquest 6.5-20x50 to top it off.

I'll definitely keep you updated with the build. I'm not sure yet about the rest of the parts, but the stock is going to take 6 months to get here :(

What 455 are you starting with? Are you shooting paper only?
The smith installed barrel isn't going to make much of a difference how it shoots. Barrel only held in by 2 set screws. Not rocket science on a 455.
You shouldn't do too much to the gun till you shoot it and see what it does. Then make some planned changes one at a time so you can plot the changes.
My 2¢.

I made a mistake, lilja says drop in, other threads say gunsmith required, something to do with checking head space? I realize its an easy install. I'm starting with a stock 455 varmint. I do plan on shooting it as is, and I'm sure it will shoot great from the factory. I'm changing it because I think it is fun to do. And I want to squeeze every bit of accuracy I can from it when I'm done.

I have a CZ455 with the Lilja 22lr match barrel and it is worth the efforts to get and install. Found mine on the EE :) Manners is making a nice stock for the CZ too! Lots of info on Snipers Hide with work done to the CZ455's. I really want a PDC Gen 3 folding chassis for mine! Or the new Manners carbon fiber folders :D Good luck on the build!!

That chassis is nice! Is your match barrel free floating or did you have to bed it to shoot accurately?

I have not bed the action yet as I am thinking of moving it into the PDC chassis or Manners folder. I have just started to play with this so not done yet with the mods. Thinking of this as a target grade bushgun that will fold up into a short package. I do have a ACE folding kit for the wood stock too if I decide to take a cheaper solution to the folder. The barrel will be free floating regardless!

Sorry, 452 trigger guards are different unfortunately. They are easier to find though. there is a 3 month or so wait for the guard from the DIP factory. Extended mag release, aluminum magwell and 25 MOA extended rail are in the mail. Kinney's shooting supply has quick responses, and excellent service. Now we will see what the shipping time is. I'm hoping the rifle is here friday, i'll get some pics up when it shows up. The lilja barrel was quoted 590 and a 3 week order time. I haven't pulled the trigger on that deal yet, seams a little high. More shopping around to do.

It looks to me like there is an awful lot of work and waiting involved. Not to mention you need a $350 export license before you can order. I can't see how this would be easy or cheaper. ATRS quoted $590 for the barrel and I am waiting to here back from this source crankyshooter@gmail.com. Who was also listed on lilja's site as an exporter. There is one other but the e mail address provided will not receive my e mail.

First you need to apply for an international import certificate. This can be done At https://www.excol-ceed.gc.ca/Main-Principal/PrivacyStatement_DeclarationRenseignementsPersonel.aspx?t=IIC

Hit accept and fill out all of the information required. There is no cost for this, once everything is complete. Submit the form. In my experience, you should get a copy of the IIC sent to the email you used in about 2 business days. Once you receive this, send it to Lilja and they will take it from there to apply for an export permit. ( there should also be no cost for this, however, some companies will charge a small fee. Once they receive the export permit, they will send the item. Generally, if these companies send via UPS or FedEx, they will have you prefer pay the brokerage. In my experience, shipping is between 30-40. You will pay tax on the item but no duties as it will fall under NAFTA.

I have only done this once and this was the process I used. For me, the turn around time was very fast and I had my item in less than 3 weeks. This can vary basted mostly on the export certificate. If you have any other questions, I will try to answer. Lilja should also be able to field and questions you have as I'm sure they export quite frequently.
