CZ 455 Head-space issue

Hi everyone,

While there are lots of shims available here in Canada to shim up bolts to reduce head-space, I find myself in a position where I actually need to increase it. I replaced my super match barrel with a new to me varmint barrel on my 455. It is fine just closing the bolt, but it is plenty tight trying to close it on TAC-22 ammo (I have not tried others. It sure shoots, and this may be due to the short head-space, however, it is difficult trying to hold point while loading a second round.

I have found barrel shim kits in the US for this purpose but none here in Canada. These would fit over the barrel tenon and shim it out from the receiver.

Anyone here have this issue or know a source for shims? Let me know.

Thanks,

Mark

Meroh, Triggershims in MI will ship 'shims' internationally, but their site doesn't 'Specifically' indicate barrel shims are 'Included' in that. I would think so but I would email them to confirm. Also, they only seems to ship via Mail, so it may take a while for CP to get back to work.
In the meantime, maybe try some other ammo. My 455 SS Lux has no probs chambering with SK & ELEY, tho Eley isn't quite as accurate for me. And my VMTR does OK with those ammos also, even CCI-SV chambers OK in both rifles.

Issue has been resolved; one German Beer Can shim did it. Both Tac-22 and CCI STD load much more easily. Both do give slightly more resistance than dry cycling; so she is still tight enough.

Ha! Good ole redneck engineering saves the day... now what kind of beer? A Pilsner seems most appropriate :D

Actually, it was a Polish Lager (I looked at the remnants) Tyskie.

Now I want one. LOL

I thought I had a shim set, but I guess I already gave it away to someone else. I could probably make you the shim you need all nice, not sure how I'd get it to you with the CP strike and all... Ah well, I'll cheers to beers being the solution! :d

This has been my motto for years: There's no problem that can't be solved by just putting the tools down for a few minutes and having a good old "thinking beer."

Well done!
