Hi Folks,
Been thinking about getting a CZ 455 American Varmint in 17 hmr. Any thoughts and opinions from owners ? I've read all good reviews, seems to be a no-brainer but thought I better ask, any must have add-on's or improvements ?
Also, when purchasing a new one, does it come with any other barrels ? Looking at CZ's site, it looks like the regular American comes with a 17 hmr and a 22lr barrel, but I could be mistaken, which leads into my next question, where to get alternate barrels and does anyone have an idea of cost ?
One last question, are there any higher capacity mags available for it ?
Thanks for your time, I have searched but if anyone knows for sure...Thanks

I have a 452 varmint in .17 HMR and I love it. You can get 10 round mags from a few site sponsors or eBay. I don't have the option of interchangeable barrels like the 455 but I think some packages include two barrels. I am positive you would be happy with a CZ.

I upgraded from a Savage to a CZ455 American about a year ago and haven't looked back. They look great. The fit and finish are excellent. They are well constructed. The accuracy was better than my Savage, but just marginally. Checkering on the fore stock of the American is a little small for my taste. The standard complaint for the trigger guard is valid as it is stamped and looks out of place on the rifle. Mine does not like to feed the 17 grain loads - the first one or two rounds in the clip don't feed smoothly into the chamber. The 20 grainers feed flawlessly and accuracy and price (I got a couple bricks at LeBaron for $9/50) is a little better. I think your making a good choice with a 455. You may want to think about the switch barrel option as you will have to move the scope with each barrel change unless you get really lucky, from everything that I have read.

I have a 452 American in 22LR, and a second one in 17HMR.
I also have a HB 455 [Varmint] in 22 WMR.

I could not be more pleased...these are great rifles. Accurate, well made, and ergonomically pleasing.

For the price cut, these are amazingly accurate rifles. My 17HMR will shoot ½ moa all day with Hornady's 20 gr pills.

Buy a CZ, and never look back! Regards, Dave.
