I recently got a chance to handle a CZ 455 TH Varmint, CZ 455 American and a CZ 452 American.

I really liked the CZ 455 TH Varmint except for two things:

1) The stock design didn't fit me well as it seemed like a fairly long reach for my trigger finger to reach the trigger. A problem I have read others have as well.
2) The inletting along the barrel channel is extremely wide. I realize it may need to be a bit wider to accommodate changing barrels but it bordered on ridiculous and was down right ugly.

The 455 American was my favorite but again I would find it difficult to accept the huge gap in the barrel channel inletting.

The 452 had much better inletting (although off to the right as others have mentioned) but the finish (especially internally) on various metal parts was not as well done as the two 455 models.

In conclusion I am still undecided on which model of American to get? Comments would be appreciated.

I have a 452 varmint and love it, a buddy of mine bought a 452 american in 17hmr and really like it except for the price of ammo. I haven`t handled a 455 to compare but the guys on RimfireCentral seem to like the 452 better. If you aren`t happy when trying them in the store for fit then you likely won`t be happy at home, if i was getting another i`d likely get a 452 American. wouldn`t be selling the varmint though.

i have both cz 455 and 452 lux. the 455 is pretty accurate. but the 452 is extramy accurate. if its going to be a hunting rifle get the 455 but if its going to be a target rifle get the 452.

Purchased a 452 American. I'm very pleased. Hers's a pic of it with my Henry.

i have the 452. when i handles the 455 i didnt like the feel in my hands. put it down and never gave it another look.

IMO. when a company comes out with a updraged model like going 452 to 455. its a way to cheepen manifacturing and they found ways to cut corners to turn higher prophets. happens in the gun world (pre 64 winchesters). automotive ect

The 455 has interchangeable barrels.

I have a 452 Varmint .22LR and it is so bloody accurate it blows my mind. One small ragged hole with 10 rounds at 100 yds is not uncommon.

I just got my 455 varmint in the mail. I can't compare the accuracy yet (which is obviously pretty important), but in my hands the fit and finish is nicer, the bolt moves more freely and feels beefier, and the barrel is much thicker than the 452 varmint, a lot bigger than I realized from looking at pictures.

If the 455 shoots as well as my 452 (which is a huge "if"), I would have no problem migrating to the 455 platform. The wood on the 455 is also very nicely figured.
