Got a 457 in .17 HMR, and feeding is terrible. The mag seems to be releaseing the top round inconsistently. Is there a metal mag for these, or are they all plastic?

Did you check to see if the mag spring and follower is assembled correctly? There have been many instances where the spring was reversed. Are you cycling the bolt "with authority" ? A firm cycle is preferred with many CZs. They are Not 'controlled feed' so 'fast' is better. Are you 'rapping' the mag to seat ammo in 'back' of mag ? Does this happen with several brands of ammo ?

I believe there is a steel mag for the 457 hmr available. A buddy bought the gun a year or two ago and ordered a steel mag at the same time. It was a bit of a wait for the mag and close to double the price. I haven't heard him mention any feeding issues with the rifle.

CZ 455/457 steel magazines are available at most gun stores. 5 round steel $57.95
I carry a few spares and one in my glove box just in case i left one at home while cleaning the rifle. Im forgetful, also own three screw drivers, 3 hammers, 100 knives and 15 flashlights.

I'm of the opinion that far too many 10rd. rimfire mags are actually 9.75 round mags. By the time you get #10 in there, often the top/last round isn't @ the correct angle to feed properly. I've seen this too many times over too many makes/models of guns to not believe it. lol

5 round mags tend to be better for 5 than 10 are for 10. I'll also add that the only CZ rimfire mags I've had issues with WERE The steel mags.

If you load 9/10 and it still doesn't feed?

If you bought it used the magazine could be worn out - happened to my Tikka the rounds just wouldn't stay in the magazine

Never had feeding trouble with any of my plastic CZ rimfire mags, 5 shot, .22 or 17. I never use my steel mags.

Yep, neither did I, with my 455 or 457VMTR - using 5s & 10s in plastic and 10 in metal. I prefer the plastic since the metal has sharp 'corners' and I'm a wuss.
