As the title states, I’m interested in one of these in a 17hmr or 22 wmr if they make one
I know the stock is designed for a right hand shooter but is it really ackward for a lefty to use?

The CZ 457 MTR is available in .22LR only. As far as a lefty shooting it with its right handed pistol grip, that can be done, but with some awkwardness. The CZ 457 Varmint is more left hand friendly and is available in magnum calibers.

As mentioned the MTR is available in HMR as seen in the link above, not only that, it comes in a couple centrefire calibres as well. I started off with one in 6.5 Grendel, and then added a 16" and 20" .22LR versions. I'm a LH shooter and I can manage the MTR stock just fine, this stock would be awesome as a righty. The lack of sculpting puts you into a thumb up position on your trigger hand, which isn't a problem being I shoot off of bags of a bipod and the recoil is minimal. I wish they would have taken a more ambi approach to the MTR stock like they did on the 557 target or whatever model it is that has a very similar stock.

I see Tenda does have them in 17hmr but not in 22 mag

CZ's MTR (Match Target Rifle) in rimfire is only available in .22LR, despite what Tenda's website may suggest. As readers may know, what distinguishes this model from other 457 rimfires is the distinctive stock, which is very much like that on the 527 MTR, and, very importantly, the "match" .22LR chamber. It's this "match" chamber that is supposed to make the MTR barrel a target model's barrel. Any other barrels in magnum calibers replacing the factory .22LR barrel won't have the "match" chamber and would be from another model of 457.

Both CZ UB and CZ USA show the 457 MTR available in .22LR only. Other models such as the 457 American, Lux, Varmint, Royal are available in 17HMR and 22WMR as well. The Scout and Training models appear to be available in .22LR only.

I have a cz 527 mtr (similar stock) and my brother who only shoots left hates it. He says it is very uncomfortable and he can't find a good grip on it. If you carved away at the stock a little you could make it a lot more comfortable. I also went with a southpaw buddy to pick up a new cz for himself. He likes a right bolt because it's all he has ever known tried an MTR (in 17hmr) and hated it. Couldn't stand it so went with a standard american in 22lr.
