Except for the stock whats the difference between MTR snd Varmint, of the 3 22LR, which one is your choice mostly likely for RF PRS, thanks

Go with the MTR; the MTR has a tighter match chamber; although they never truly say what it is, I believe it's a Bentz. The varmint has a standard sporter chamber, so it's a bit looser.

I run a 20" MTR in an MDT CZ 457 for my CPRS/22 LR match rifle, it's stupid accurate!

Both the CZ and Tikka rifles are made to CIP chamber specifications, so the MTR will not have a Bentz chamber. The CIP chamber specs are the minimum dimensions permitted. As a result some .22LR firearms may have chambers with larger dimensions.

The CZ 457 MTR and the 457 LRP both have what CZ calls "match" chambers. That means that they are closer to the minimum dimensions allowed than other CZ chambers. Chambers closer to the minimum dimensions may have difficulty chambering all .22LR ammunition. Match chambers in general are shorter in length than sporting chambers, so that means that the bullet often engages the rifling as the bolt is closed and this can be felt by the bolt being harder to close. Chambers that can easily handle a very wide variety of .22LR ammo have more generous dimensions.

Neither CZ nor Tikka publish information about the actual dimensions of their chambers.

Below are the CIP specifications.

I have shot with 2 CZ 457 MTR'S and both chambers accepted match
ammunition ( SK , RWS ,ELEY) snugly ,one wouldn't chamber any CCI and the other
hard chambered CCI but not after it warmed up.

Xlnt shooters both ..

If you get the CZ 457 do you plan to up grade the parts like the barrel and stock. If so I would suggest getting the cheapest CZ 457 Synthetic and start from there with your build.

I have the MTR which produced tight groups stock form but I ended up upgrade to a Lilja barrel and a MDT Chassis. I'm very happy with the upgrades I did but to start over I would have got the cheaper synthetic version and build from there.

My wife has the synthetic version because it's nice and light for her to handle and that rifle will produce "impact" out to my 200 yards targets with CCI SV. Easy peasy "impact" at my 2" spinner set at 100 yards with CCI SV..

In the end whether it's my upgraded $$$$$ 457 or my wife's $$$ 457 as long as I hear "impact" that's what really counts for PRS. The rest is the cool factor.

That is exactly what I did on my CZ457. Upgraded to IBI Olympic Shuble barrel and Krg Bravo, and it shoots like laser.

Im new to the rimfire game. I was torn between the MTU and the VPT. A VPT with an ibi barrel and match chamber came up in the e&e a couple weeks ago so I jumped on it. first time to the range yesterday.

It was quite evident that it won’t shoot/chamber/eject certain kinds of ammo (cci and Winchester so far), but any lapua or Eley or SK I put through it functioned perfectly.

My first findings on my first range day was, there’s no cheap shooting with this match chamber, I think? Seems like it only likes the $$ ammunition, but is kinda what I bought it for. Might be something to consider if going to a match chambered rifle?

Being new to me still, I never got to try it with the original barrel, but the original owner did say that it helped with its consistency. After yesterday’s range day, it proved to be the best shooting .22 that iv owned. A couple friends with their B22 precision’s, tore up 1” circles while I was tearing up 1/2” circles.

Thanks for all the feedback, so the TX is not worth considering? , already have a spare MDT Tikka chassis sitting from my centerfire, was hoping I can use it to the T1, that why I’m asking too about its performance

I’ve owned a 452, and currently own a 455 and tikka T1X. By far the tikka t1x is the one I like the most. Shoots the best as well. If you already have a chassis, I think it would be odd to go the CZ route.

I have a T1X in a MDT ACC. It is in fact the same chassis used for Tikka SA centerfire rifles. I bought the T1X so I could use the same chassis when I get a 6.5CM T3X. I put a Yo Dave trigger spring in my T1X. It shoots 10 rnd groups of CCI SV in 1 1/4”-1 7/8” at 89M. This is over approx 4K rnds downrange. It put 10 rnds of Eley Tennex in 9/16” at 50M twice. I haven’t had the chance to stretch the Eley out farther yet. I like the 45* bolt lift of the T1X. IBI barrels (or any custom barrel) with a match chamber don’t like CCI SV because it’s a bit long. It’s a trade off if you shoot well enough to benefit from and pay for match ammo and barrel. I find SK RM and SK Standard+ shoot similarly to CCI SV.

If a barrel swap is something you plan to do down the line it is not as easy as the 457. YouTube and Google will help get the info on a T1x barrel swap.

Also worth mentioning... Check out the Bergara. Firearms outlet sells just the barreled action so you can customize it to your liking. The Bergara will except Remington 700 chassis and aftermarket triggers. https://www.firearmsoutletcanada.co...agazine--22lr-18-carbon-fiber-b14rba002-.html

So leaning towards 457 Varmint MTR, so which bbl length? 16” or 20”, planning of trying the PRS shooting

Just bought a 457 MTR 16” barrel at “ The Gun Dealer “. It’s on sale one left 13% off and I got an extra 5% off Victoria Day weekend. Scope base and 25 round mag arrived today. Friend bought the 20” Nice guns.

As mentioned it's personal preference. Both are just as accurate with very little velocity difference between 16, 18 or 20".

I prefer the short barrel for my personal needs and where I shoot. Plus adding a tuner to a 16" barrel is still visual appealing.

I have all three rifles, my personal favorite is 457 varmint. MTR has tight chamber, the quality of T1X is so cheap.

May I ask what you found cheap about the Tikka, I am overly impressed with mine. The action , trigger, bolt, barrel, and even the stock (compared to other company's plastic stocks) are all excellent. The trigger guard and and mag are kinda cheapish though.
