Cz 457 Varmint. 16.5,20 or 24

Some encouragement, Beware the 16.5 MTR is threaded 1/2x20, I haven't been able to source a brake yet that would look good. Purely aesthetics of course

Sweet looking setup!!

Looks good, what ammo does it like?

So far only tested CCI SV which didn't do that great but I'll be testing it again, and shot SK standard plus, pistol match special, flatnose basic, and rifle match, shot all the SK fairly well, my rest setup needs a big upgrade and Iam sure I'll be able to shrink them even more, I can post some photos later, only had it out twice now

The promise of Aguila's claim aside, what would be special about this ammo and a 24" barrel? This is Aguila's top SV ammo. Why not a longer or shorter barrel?

No one said or claimed otherwise. We all know it will work fine in most barrel lengths, including you. No argument to be had here, you can stop looking.

It's a Captain Obvious thing to say that Aguila .22 Rifle Match ammo -- like every other .22LR ammo -- will, as you say, "work fine in most barrel lengths."

The question is not whether it will work fine. The question is why is there a claim that it's "Designed for use in 24" length barrels"?

Why don`t you call Aguila and demand an answer from them?

Would Aguilla appreciate a rhetorical question? A better one is why some posters uncomprehendingly repeat something that is seen a website, despite how senseless it is.

For someone who knows so much you totally missed the point of that post, "no argument to be had here, you can stop looking".

I have always much to learn. With words on forums, where too often it's impossible to convey or discern inflection and nuance, important things get overlooked.

If you're going to be mostly bench, get the 20. If you're going to be lugging it in the field to annihilate gophers and such, then go 16.5. The shorter "heavy barrel" is lighter to carry, easier to shoot unsupported, easier to move around logistically (cases/trucks) and "faster" to aim. My approach was to set up two lightweight gopher guns (TUF 22 and CZ455 17hmr) with short barrels and lighter stocks and scopes, then set up the 20" heavy barrel cz457 .22 for the bench with a heavier scope, bipod, etc.

Just food for thought.

I watch a video where a guy from Vudoo had his machinist take a barrel and cut it incrementally. Beyond 21 inches the bullet actually slowed and between 16-21 inches it had the fastest velocity.
Me? I'd choose a barrel between 18 and 20 inches. 22's are generally a 1:16 twist. My .02 cents, rounded down, it means nothing.

Check if your antenna is bent.

Voodoo has made plenty of noise bragging up the research they claim to have performed regarding optimal barrel length, meaning where the bullet achieved maximum speed.

They have dug in their cleats on the point and refuse to produce a barrel any longer than that.

It is for this same reason that I refuse to buy a Voodoo, but that's because I plan to use the rifle for PRS style shooting.

The problem is not what barrel length produces the fastest speed, but what barrel length produces the best balance point for shooting from Barricades and obstacles.

A buddy of mine has a couple Voodoos and a RimX. The RimX has a 24 inch MTU profile, but the Vudoos have 22 inch.

Yes the Voodoos are a little faster, with a specific bullet, but at distance we dont see a difference.

We collectively prefer the balance of the longer barrel on the RimX.

If you want a bush gun, go short. If you want a competition gun go with 24.
