I got the opportunity to pick up a new CZ 512 in .22WMR for a good deal . I've been looking at these for a while but never actually saw one in a shop until a few days ago. I haven't had it to the range yet but have tried the trigger with snap caps. It's very smooth, quite heavy, and has a lot of travel but not as bad as I have been led to believe. I took it apart to clean it up as it was very oily. Very nicely made but the one thing that surprised me was the plastic bolt handle! Can't have that so I made up new one from cold rolled steel and blued it. The weather here is supposed to get warmer this weekend so I'll try to get out to the rangw with it then. Here are some pics

The scope is a Hawke Varmint 4-16. The rings are Lynx brand that I got at P&D in Edmonton to fit the 11mm dovetail CZ uses on this rifle. I'm not impressed with the Hawke scope, it was a waste of money. I bought it on the recommendation of a friend, lousy glass and the mil dots are way too large. I have a Vortex Diamondback on my Remington 597 that is light-years better and about the same money. I've wanted a .22mag semi for a long time so I'm looking forward to trying it out. I thought about a Rem 597 magnum but the CZ is actually cheaper.

I wonder if the weight difference between the plastic and metal bolt handles will affect the function of the rifle? I am not being a nay-sayer, I am just curious to hear your range report. I have seen these rifles around too and I am interested in the 22mag version, I hope yours works out for you!

you may find that the Hornady 30gr Vmax round is most accurate in your new gun. FS

This is what works with mine. As for bolt handle, mine broke the second time out in our frigid winter and had a buddy machine one out of brass. The gun is dynamite of running jacks!

I got the new 512 out to the range yesterday and put 100 rounds through it. I tried 3 different kinds of ammo, CCI maxi mags (40gr1875 fps), Winchester defenders (40gr 1295 fps) and some Federal GameShock (50gr muzzle velocity unknown). My Marlin 983 loves the Federal 50 gr stuff but the CZ does not!! The low velocity Winchester stuff shoots well at 50 yards but not at 100, no surprise as it`s about the same speed as .22LR ammo. It liked the CCI maximags pretty well, I could not find any 30gr Hornady to try. I had a few fail to feeds with the winchester but that seems to be a magazine issue as it stops when I hold the mag up with my hand while shooting, a known issue with these polymer CZ mags thats easy to fix. The rifle seems very accurate but it`s got a very heavy trigger pull that makes it difficult to be consistant. I don`t have a trigger pull scale but it`s gotta be 8-10 lbs. Anyway, here`s the last target I shot at 100yds, concentrating hard to squeeze the trigger smoothly. Not as good as my Marlin but close and it will probably get better when I deal with the trigger. The outer circles on the target are 3.125 inches accross,1 five round mag shot at each target. I adjusted the scope down 3 clicks for the bottom left target, should have just gone 2. The flyer in the upper left was my fault, not the rifle.

My friend who has the same rifle wanted the bolt handle I made so I made another one but did not blue it. I think I`m going to use it as is for now and see if I like the bright finish. The middle one in the pic is the original plastic handle.
