I recently bought a CZ 527 in .223 from the EE and the the trigger will not go into the set mode. When I push the trigger forward it won't move at all. I seen in the manual for the rifle that the set trigger mode can be deactivated so I am hoping it is deactivated and not broken, but it doesn't say how or how to reactivate it. If anyone knows how to reactivate the set trigger mode I would appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance.

I don't like set-triggers, so I deactivated the one on my 527, and only needed to adjust the creep (sear engagement) and over-travel. The factory adjusted trigger weight was already very light, resulting in a fine trigger pull, once the other adjustments were made. I might even have to add some weight to the trigger for use in the cold.

The set trigger adjusts as follows:
The set-trigger screw is on the front of the trigger, immediately below the two screws with lock-nuts; the top one is for weight, and the lower one is for creep. Directly below the screw that adjusts creep, is a small screw with no lock-nut, this adjusts the set trigger. Turning it clockwise should decrease the sensitivity, so it holds (I backed mine out to deactivate the set). My rifle came with a very light trigger, and I found that the set-trigger wouldn't hold, so if you adjust the set-trigger screw and it still doesn't hold, you might have to put some weight on the trigger (top screw) to get the set position to hold. The screw which adjusts over-travel is a small screw with no lock-nut, like the set trigger adjustment screw, but it is located at the rear of the trigger.

Thank-you for your help Boomer.

I suspect that there is something wrong with my trigger unit now. When I turn the set-trigger screw clockwise(tightening it) it causes the regular trigger to stop working. When I back out the set-trigger screw(CCW) the trigger becomes looser and I can push it forward, but it does not stay forward. Also the more I turn the set-trigger screw CCW the more the trigger becomes looser in all directions. Its like its just hanging there, moves side to side excessively as well as back and forward. I can't see that being normal. But when I re tighten the screw to somewhere in the middle the trigger is no longer loose, but still no set-trigger mode.

After re-reading your post maybe it is what you had mentioned above. Maybe the regular trigger weight is set so low that the set-trigger mode won't engage no matter where I adjust the set-trigger screw. I was hoping not to have to remove the stock but it sounds like I will have to at this point to adjust the weight.

someone who did not know what they were doing has likely had a go at adjusting the trigger on your rifle by the sounds of it. As far as not liking a set trigger you can simply not push the trigger forward/use that function on a firearm equipped with a single set trigger.

why someone would feel the need to make it mechanically not function to be able to use the rifle is strange to me as it is only actvated by the user pushing the trigger forward.

I am thinking the exact same thing.

I took the stock off and once I could see how the set-trigger screw adjustment worked I ended up backing it out much further than I did the first time which finally allowed the trigger to be pushed far enough forward that the set-trigger mode would engage. Boomer's info was very helpful. I found that my set-trigger screw had been turned all the way in(CW) as the method of deactivating it. With it screwed all the way in it wouldn't allow it to be pushed forward at all.

When I put the stock back on the first time, I tested the set-trigger again and it would reset to the original trigger mode rather than firing when I pulled the trigger. I also found that the magazine wouldn't fit in all the way. I loosened off the action screws to a point where the stock was still tight but the screws were relatively loose and everything worked fine. So I loosened the action screws til the stock was loose and fitted the magazine in then re-tightened the action screws so that they were tight and everything now works as it should. So I'm thinking the previous owner had the stock misaligned as I did the first time (maybe not to the same degree since I could still use the mag) and deactivated the set-trigger since they figured they had broke it? Who knows though, I'm just glad it seems to be working normally now. Personally I think I will prefer the set trigger but I guess I should try it in the yard tomorrow and see how it goes.

Good thing it wasn't buggered up beyond repair. I like a single set trigger and try to get the option on any rifle I buy that the manufacturer offers it on.

Just a FYI, you can call CZUSA Technical Support and they will also help you out over the phone. Their gunsmiths are very helpful based on my own experience.

The CZ-USA tech support recommended 25-30 inch pounds for the action screws on my CZ 527 carbine

Also I found the following CZ blog article on adjusting the SST helpful.

Boomer - why do you dislike set triggers? I love them and find that they are especially useful when shooting offhand.

Just personal preference. I want my triggers to have the same feel from shot to shot, and I don't want to have to push the back of a trigger before I shoot, or squeeze the shoe on the front of a trigger, or for that matter, adjust my shooting grip to facilitate moving from a rear trigger to a front one. I love the look of double set triggers on classic European rifles, and on the old Newtons, but I don't want to use them. The factory trigger on my little 527, as I've adjusted it, is as good as the Jewel on my M-700 target rifle.

I am not a big fan of double set triggers, but single set is fine by me. The one I've used most is on a Steyr and the trigger is excellent even without setting it. You do point out one of the reasons I am no longer own any Brno 21H's though. The DST, when not set, is not very good.
