The local store has this and it just looks so compact and light. Make a nice carrying around rifle on the farm.

Anyone have any hands on with it? Would the 1:12 twist leave me with only the option of the heavier bullets? 18.5" barrel?

I just picked up the American version of this rifle new from Reliable here in Vancouver. They actually got me a leftie too. This is a sweet rifle! Cant wait to take it out to the range. I went looking for this rifle. I dont like plastic stocks and I prefer detachable mags. When you are looking for a blued rifle with a solid wood stock there is not a lot of choice. Lots of box mags and hinged floorplates though. And the mag is steel too. Pretty nicely put together. There is a test target done at 100m and the group is 3/4in. This is a true short action-almost as if it is designed for the 223. I followed a couple of forums and this was the major choice for a lot of people. My wife and I now have 3 CZs and they are all keepers. Instant classics. They are very well put together guns-the CZ527 has been floated by the factory and it has a fully adjustable set trigger. I got what I wanted for a change. Whoa imagine that eh? With CZ you pretty much cant go wrong. Lots out there and very few get sold. Does that tell you something? I prefer the longer barrels though. Just my $0.02 Must weigh all of 5lbs.

I own a CZ527 carbine in .223. It is shockingly accurate. I've used it in the gopher patch with a bipod. It takes gophers at 300 yards no problem.
I want one in 7.62x39 now. It is a joy to carry afield.

The 1:12 twist would be best for 55 grain and lighter bullets, I prefer the 50 grain bullets (Speer TNT) in my 223 but many other shooters like the 40 gr Ballistic Tip type bullets for increased speed.

Is the safety back to front as on the 7.62 x 39 model? I found that very disconcerting first couple of times but after a while it all fell together. The CZ550 have the normal rear safe forward fire safeties!

What's accuracy like with that thing? I've been curious about one of them for a while now..

I've taken deer with mine although I havent been overly happy wit it on the range. I'm doing more range work next week with mine and IF I GET a DECENT GROUP. I'll let you know! I havent managed yet although it still makes the 4" circle at 100 yards deer test.
Has to be handloads here as sp ammo is not available and wouldnt make the 1700 foot pound limit anyway!

My carbine in 7.62x39 shoots about 3 inches at 100m with Bell ammo. That is 123 grain soft points non corrosive. I shoot it stock with the open sights. I know it would go MOA with a scope. There is better ammo to shoot in it also. I am trying to get some Hornady 123 gr .310 bullets to build some handloads. Already got the Lapua brass. Can't find the bullets.

cheers Darryl

Any idea how the 7.62's shoot Czech sulplus? I know it's not ammo known for accuracy, but would be a nice plinker with those and commercial / reloads for serious work.

A friend has the 7.62x39 version. He's getting half inch groups at 100 yards pulling bullets from Hansen factory ammo and substituting with Hornady .310 bullets. He's using a 3 power scope.
These little rifles shoot.

I have one in .223 it shoots 55 grain Sub .5 moa after free floating.
i had to leave the front sight on thoe because it dosn't shoot as well when i took it off. just as well i like having them there for back.

My sks shoots 3" groups :p

527 Varmint

I've got the Varmint Laminated. 1:12 twist and it is deadly with 45 grain, shoots very small groups at 100yds. and not much change at 200 yards. Doesn't like 55 grain though, not as accurate. Got my at the Kamloops Show 2 years ago, and I love it, especially the set trigger. In addition, you can adjust the trigger, and I like a lite trigger. Mine was around $900.

You know Simonsez, your SKS shooting 3" groups is about all anyone really needs. You can't beat them for the price. There's a post on Youtube where these guys shoot 3 or so hogs on the run with SKSs. No problems. All hogs down. Really, what more do you need for 95% of hunting chores? I'm going to try my SKS on gophers soon. I plan to set the sights high, and hold under the gopher. Let's see what she'll do!
