CZ 527 Carbine .223

You know Simonsez, your SKS shooting 3" groups is about all anyone really needs. You can't beat them for the price. There's a post on Youtube where these guys shoot 3 or so hogs on the run with SKSs. No problems. All hogs down. Really, what more do you need for 95% of hunting chores? I'm going to try my SKS on gophers soon. I plan to set the sights high, and hold under the gopher. Let's see what she'll do!

I agree!
But those CZ rifles looks better! and are lighter . Maybe I'll try them...

My sks shoots 3" groups :p
The 4" circle is the pass fail stalking test (not very difficult) for the UK. I insist on clients passing this and when we shoot standing at 40 yards they need to cloverleaf those groups.
The 7.62 x 39 suffers from being underpowered by about 400 foot pound here. Thats why sp ammo isnt for sale. I am basically experimenting with it at the moment, I have made the minimum legal energy limit so now I need to find an accuracy load. The problem is I only have 50 foot pounds slack below me and I'm reluctant to push the round much further so I may be trimming a tenth of a grain of the load. So far I have got the rig to pass the minimum test but its not really what I want! I need it to be 1 moa to be happy but I guess I can accept 2 moa. The problem is its a battle cartridge fired either from semi autos (you lucky bleeders) or from short barreled bolt action rifles so as long as I know its limits I am happy with it.
generally in woodland most shots are at about 40 - 60 yards, hence the dead birthday buck.

You mean that it is required by english laws to hunt only with cartridges with more than 1700 foot-pounds of power? For deer?

given a choice again, i would not buy another 1:12 .223. not that theres anything 'wrong' with them, just that your ammo options are too limited.

you cant 'overstabilize' a bullet so the 1:9 twist guns seem infinitely better because they let you play with the larger bullets.

In England and wales apart from Muntjac and Chinese water deer which can be taken with 1000 foot pound .22 centre fire cartridges!
Thats the law I'm afraid but it doesnt stop criminals and poachers using .17 rimfires on big Fallow deer! They are breaking the law already so why worry about another 2 or 3?

Nothing wrong with a T3 Nester, they are quality rifles and despite my love affair with CZ they arent of the same quality of build as a standard factory rifle. They do have a good custom shop but its a long way to visit!

Here's a target shot today with my 527 in 223. 200 yrds shooting AE 50grn and it was breezy. I'm blaming the flyer on the meathead pulling the trigger (could be just inconsistency in the cheap ammo I suppose....yeah that's what it was :))

The CZ Carbine lost out

Brought a T3 .223 home this weekend instead. $170 cheaper and I'm a Tikka fan.

Hey Nester,

I just bought the T3 Deluxe in .223 that P&D had on their rack. :D Can't wait to see how she shoots...should make a good walking coyote rifle.

Let us know how your works once you get to try it out.

Jeff.

I was touching that T3 Deluxe last weekend as they had it out on the floor on sale. Very nice :)

On my T3 Blues/Synthetic .223 I decided to put on a Bushnell Legend 5-15x40 AO/Mil Dot with Leupold rings/bases. With AE 55gr it gives me 2" but with WWB 45gr it gives me MOA. I can tag coke cans at 200M each and everytime. Very happy with it :D

Having a hard time tracking down the ever popular WWB 45gr though :(

This will be my 4th Tikka. .300 Win Mag, 7-08, .243 and .223 make up the collection.

The T3 is a lot heavier than the CZ 527. Unless they make it a lot smaller for .223?
Admittedly I have only handled .243 and 6.5 in T3 as most people here balk at paying stalking rifle prices for a pest rifle calibre! Although the law has now changed and we can use .22 centre fire on small deer!
