CZ 527 Carbine Problem

I purchased a CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62 x 39, for the express purpose of shooting cheap military surplus ammo. To that end, I also bought a large stockpile of Czech ammo.

To my dismay, I learned that the rifle will not reliably fire the ammo. The hammer strike is not sufficiently strong to ignite the hard military primer. Every 3 to 5 rounds has a misfire. On top of everything, I find it difficult to locate commercially manufactured 7.62 x 39 ammunition.

I screwed up again, it seems. Is there anything that can be done to make the CZ 527 fire military ammo?

Take the bolt apart and make sure everything is squeaky clean, then lightly re oil it. The firing pin must be getting slowed down somehow.

I don't understand the desire to shoot military ammo in a sporting/precision rifle. I found that milsurp czech/russian/chinese stuff is pretty inconsistent. I would recommend that you take up reloading and shoot reloads for hunting/precision and accept that you will have occasional misfires on the range...

I have the same issue. The first few hundred rounds were just fine, now I get light strikes all the time.

Difference is, I guess, that it doesn't bother me to have to swivel the bolt and shoot again...

Theoretically you could get another spring made up?? Maybe have the firing pin slightly reshaped to have a smaller impact surface on the offchance it generates more energy in one spot to ignite the primer?

I've thought about it, but the ammo is so cheap, and I get very reasonable accuracy out of the gun with it, so I opt not to worry about it.

I may get around to reloading for it for the pleasure of occasionally shooting cleaner, better ammo, but if you bought the gun for the same reason I did, consider it just part of the deal for getting to use the surplus. I know it kinda sucks, but for now, just rocking the knob up to reset the firing pin and re-striking is pretty quick.

If I do reload for this rifle, do you or others know what bullet diameter is best for the 527? Does it take a 308 or is it 310?

Heavier spring!

Joy!

Also, I'll have to find the information source for that bullet diameter, because I had the same question. I remember it being closer to .310, but I don't remember who said it or where.

Not a big help, I know, but it does suggest that SOMEONE out there knows... I'll try and dig it up again.

Look to the CZ forum. ( I can't link it) It will answer all of your questions. I believe the CZ is bored to .310. Ruger's mini 30 was the only one made in .308 dia. It had a special throat to swage .310 to .311 bullets. This made the mini .30 able to use .308 and larger bullets for reloading.
