CZ 527 carbine

Interesting this just popped up.

My 1:9 527 American will do this with Sierra SBT 65gr handloads over Ramshot TAC:

They will shoot. I had to relieve the barrel channel a bit on mine but once I did, really works.

Scrummy

The CZ527 keeps getting rave reviews over and over again, in fact I’ve never seen a bad review of them. But I’ve got mixed feelings about my CZ527. I got mine new, in 17Hornet. To look at it’s aesthetically beautiful. But the action feels like there’s gravel in it, not sand, gravel. The mag puts scratches into the brass, if and when it feeds. Shoots everything you feed it very consistently - about 1.5”. Basically a third world made gun for a North American price.

But there are pluses: the trigger is easy to adjust and when adjusted to your liking, it’s up there with really good. And when you seat the bullets out to .010 off the lands it shoots incredibly well, I have had .3” groups. But that’s the only place it shoots well. But then the bullets don’t feed thro the mag. And to single shot load you have to hold everything just so and then it’s hit n miss.

But it’s still beautiful, but personally, I prefer function to beauty. Hopefully your experience with this rifle is more positive than mine.

I have a varmint stock 527 in .223
Not sure why but I've have a lot of trouble doing groups less than 2.5" I haven't found a muzzle device with correct threads, so I haven't tried to see if a downward pressure brake would help, or if I just haven't found the right bullet/load yet, or who knows maybe I got a bit of a lemon. I know the bolt in mine doesn't work correctly if I don't push it sideway-and-forwards so who knows.

I am a huge fan of cz, so I'm willing to count some operator error into it, and some have suggested to try lighter bullets (I've tried 55-80gr so far).

I’m really disappointed with my 527 as well. But play with your seating depth, that’s what I did with mine. And mine shoots beautiful at about .010 off the lands. Really fussy that way. Trouble is, then the rounds don’t fit into the mag, and feeding it single shot is a major pita. And I’ve got the same trouble with my bolt too. Feels like there’s gravel in there. Not sand, gravel.

And don’t bother with warranty. Your gun will be gone for 6-9 months and you’ll get it back with a note that says everything is within specs. Go ahead, ask me how I know that!

Haven’t read the whole thread but I’ve got a 527. First off, the good stuff, really pretty, beautiful wood, great trigger after you get it adjusted where you want it. Set trigger not necessary for my likes cuz the .5” after travel of set trigger nullifies any advantage that it should have. Shoots really well if you can find the accuracy node and then the said node is extremely small and voids the use of the mag bc of the length of cartridge. Backwards safety a mute issue for me as I very rarely use a safety; a truly safe gun is an empty gun for me. Really consistent - shoots everything at 1.75 moa groups that you feed it until you happen upon the accuracy node and then it rockets down to .5moa. Quality control from the factory is limited to appearance only, doesn’t extend to function. The action feels like it runs in gravel, not sand, gravel. And if you use the mag it rips a huge scratch into every round that you’re able to crank thro it. Sent it in for warranty work and after 6 months it came back having done nothing to it with a note that said it’s within spec. But other than that a great rifle as thousands will attest.

My opinion, you can buy a great gun for the same price and the same features and none of the poor quality control features I’ve got in my CZ. It’ll mean a trip across the aisle to the Tikka dept but the trip will be well worth it, unless of course you’re insistent on a CZ.

The sentiments expressed in this rant are true experiences of a Cz527 owner. It was bought bc it happened to be in stock at a local gun shop with the desired caliber and the excellent ratings that are so prevalent with CZ’s. These sentiments are not an implication that all CZ’s are like this; they can’t be or there wouldn’t be the following that CZ enjoys. But they are true, they are not embellished and they are representative only of the particular rifle that I own.

I just discovered that I’ve already replied to this thread a couple times. But you’ll have to admit I’m fairly consistent in my feelings for this gun. Fair to say CZ won’t be calling me looking for accolades for their 527’s.

A couple things. For those who say the action is gravel, there will be obvious burrs/machining marks in the action. Lightly file or stone them out. Secondly, for accuracy complaints in the .223 version, try fed blue box 55gr.

I have a carbine in both .223 and 7.62x39. Love them both for the handling and accuracy. With the .223, 55 and 62 grain loads are awesome and even some 77 grainers will give me decent groups at 100 metres (I haven't tried the 77s farther). The 7.62x39 is really my favourite though with its ability to shoot comparatively cheap ammunition for practice and quality stuff for hunting. If you've never tried the Federal Fusion load in 7.62x39, you will be shocked! I have four, one shot bang flops in a row with great performance and complete penetration on decent bucks from about 60 to 130 metres. My only warning with the 7.62 version is to glass bed the stock as many, mine included, have split. Fix it before its an issue. The actions smooth up with use and I really don't notice it now, however it will never with a smoothest action contest. Overall a quality little, very useful rifle for the majority of hunting many of use do.

If anyone has a spare, walnut full stock for sale, please let me know. Would love to bed my 7.62x39 action in one for a very cool little mannlicher!
